I don’t know if there’s actually anyone here but I’m looking to get my first camera and I like the Sony from what I see. Ideally I’d like one with ibis so I’m looking at at least a 6500 or a7 II. I know many will say that the full frame is not necessary, but on the used market they can be close in price so why not? Any tips for looking for them on the used market? I’ve noticed there’s a lot of scammers out there that “want a deposit”. Someone I know told me about Allen’s camera shop, but that can be a bit expensive. If I find a legit seller on Facebook is there anything specific I should look for while checking out the camera?

Buy from keh. Their refurbished gear is always in great condition. If you go with a Sony mirrorless then look into buying vintage prime lenses that you can pair with an adapter. Photodiox makes really cool nd filter adapters that make shooting wide open a snap. Soviet lens are pretty great and dirt cheap which means you can have a gang of primes without spending an arm and a leg

Late to the post, but I just discovered this community.

There are plenty of places that sell refurbished camera stuff. Those sites are good. You know what you are going to get. But it comes at a price. I would look for second hand on whatever platform is common where you live.

If buying used from some random, I would ask questions regarding their use of the camera. Have they used it a lot? Why are they selling? And so on. It gives a good idea of what kind of person has been using the camera.

Also, ask to get a RAW file from the camera from todays date and upload it to camerashuttercount.com. This tells you how many actuations have been taken with that camera body, which is also a good indicator of use.

These are just off the top of my head. There is probably a lot of good advice on buying used on youtube as well. That works well for me.

Good luck! Or if you already got a camera; How did it go for you?

I got a used a6000 pretty cheap. I forget how many pics the guy had taken but it was basically brand new, something like 200-400 I think. It was nice but got much nicer when I got a better lens the next week. Now I’m just waiting for the right time and deal on a telephoto lens.
