The corporate governor of California is what people call a coastal elite eating Israeli avocado toast.

If I am being honest, at this point I’d take Lennie from “Of Mice and Men” over what we currently have. There’s literally no bad choice moving forward as long as it’s away from MAGA and the GOP.

While I agree with the sentiment, “I’m not Donald Trump” is a woefully in adequate campaign platform. Right now is when people need to be thinking about what they do want in an ideal candidate, organizing to make that a priority, and figuring out who is the not-donald-trump that captures the most not-maga priorities.

How do you think elections work?

If the majority of people don’t vote, they don’t cancel the Presidency.

You don’t worry about the ideal ship when you’re drowning.

They’re talking about primaries, not the general election. In primaries you focus on finding the best candidate. In the general election you vote for the least fascist major alternative, but that’s later.

If you say they are talking about the primaries, I’ll believe you.

You should tell them to edit their comment, because they never mentioned ‘primaries.’

The next election involving a presidential candidate is a primary.

Did you interpret the OP as depicting an election where the two choices are AOC and Newsom?? Who is running as the Republican?

No, I was talking about the people who couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Clinton or Harris.

Back in the day, a lot of people told themselves that there was no difference between Humphrey and Nixon. They were wrong.

Look at the reality of the situation.

The 2028 Dem candidate will probably be close to Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton’s policies.

Trump is already calling Reagan a woke Liberal.

Maybe you should clarify that’s what you’re talking about instead of coming into a thread that is clearly about a Democratic primary and lecturing the people talking about how one candidate is worse.

Or run a neoliberal and lose again, I’m used to it at this point.

There’s literally no bad choice moving forward as long as it’s away from MAGA and the GOP.

Don’t underestimate the damage neoliberals do coming in after Republicans, spray painting everything with the appearance of progressivism, but actually continuing the harm escalated by Republicans. This pisses people off to hear, but Obama deported more people than Trump or Bush. Deportation is no less violent and destructive to communities when the blue team is in charge.

Kicking Newsom out at the primary level will go a long way to reducing the harm of the next administration, because there is no bridge too far when it comes to the people he will happily betray depending on which way the wind is blowing.

Same here, fuck heads like Gavin aren’t exactly the kind of people I’d like in office but if he gets the GOP out of power then I would begrudgingly vote for him. Fingers crossed AOC is the winner here but people need to accept the world sucks right now and getting just the slightest bit of breathing room will make a world of difference for my mental health. And Im guessing it would help a few other folks as well.

You would have chosen either over the GOP anyways so that question is already answered. Deciding AOC or Gavin is still a meaning full choice to make. Not as significant as dem or republican but don’t let the difference in magnitude make you ignore the meaningfulness of the less impactful choice. Especially given the choosing only happened because of the unique circumstances we are in. AOC would never have an opportunity to lead, by the establishment dems, if the situation wasn’t so utterly fucked already. If this situation settles again, established dems will go back to reducing your opportunity to choose AOC, they would still work with Gavin, which is telling. AOC is a chance at the kind of changes the corporate dems have been successfully preventing and that option may not come around again.

That’s being unnecessarily pendant, look at his behaviour and policies instead of how someone is spelling their name.
