Heyo! Just another random who’s moving over from centralized social media to the Fediverse. Mastodon wasn’t too bad but I love anything like Reddit!

Games, anime, Japanese, food, and music are my loves. Fanfic beats food tho, I can read for hours instead!

Note how anon states they weigh the same, but they feel healthier. Being healthy isn’t about looking like a model, being healthy is about literally being healthy. You don’t need to do crazy ass workouts, chug protein mixes, and gain muscle like a TV star on steroids. You just need to get enough cardio in your day (or throughout the week) from chill/fun activities (biking, swimming, dancing) and have a balanced diet to do your body right. Don’t fucking starve yourself please, you look fine the way your are ♥️

Edit: Thought anon was at 220 and didn’t lose weight, sorry y’all damn. Also there are fat people who are fat not because of moral failing and eating McDonald’s all day, but because of serious health issues that are extremely hard to combat with dieting and exercise. RIP wanted to be positive.

Misskey is like a double edged sword for me. It’s so much more cooler and fresh looking than both Mastodon and Pixelfed, like I truly do love how sleek it looks on browser. There’s a shit ton of customization for profile pics, banners, icons, emoji reactions, etc. It incorporates both in one, pictures and short messages with hashtags.

But like, the site is so overstimulating too. I think it’s partially because it’s influenced by Japanese website culture which loves to overload the screen with text and ads and other graphics, so people’s reaction emojis will be table slamming, and their icon will have a fish doing backflips on their profile pic, and they’ll put text like “わぉぉおおおおお!1!1!1” that shakes around and shit, and it basically feels as overwhelming as this runon sentence. Like I feel a little lost when I use it ngl. Also the fact that basically all the servers are Japanese (cause it came from Japan) and the really good ones (misskey.io and pawoo.net) are not allowing foreigners to sign up because people got mad (I mean there’s a lot of loli shit on there too…) so it’s a struggle for non-Japanese speakers (I’m learning the language but my brain gets tired looking at misskey).

I joined a misskey sever but barely use the account, and half the time I’m looking at posts from remote servers (which is another fun bag of worms, looking at remote content on both Mastodon and Misskey sucks in app tbh). Honestly I barely use Mastodon or Pixelfed anyway, Lemmy is my main time sinker.

Edit: A Misskey feature that Mastodon doesn’t have is antennas, you can basically make a feed based off of a keyword you make. Almost like following hashtags but you can really specify it!

  • If you play XV for the love of god get the story DLC with it. I rawdogged it and played XV as my first ever FF game with my diehard FF fan mom watching me and we both were like “what is this dogshit and what is happening” It was disappointing for me as a newcomer.

Apparently my friend fucking loves this story though and said FF XV villain is amazing, so the additional context DLC must really save it.

Anyway I hope to get around to doing VII - XIII (skipping XII) to experience a proper FF game without the need for DLC…

Yeah, certified “smart kid” here, and I had some friends, but most of my close friends weren’t in my classes, so I barely got to see them. I love learning, it’s literally the reason why I’m learning another language rn and spend hours tinkering with my laptop, but I fucking hated school. It was so monotonous and tiring, and I was waking up before sunrise to get ready for school but frequently went to sleep past 12 am. Add clubs and sports on that and I had mornings where I seriously wondered why I was still alive.

I cried several times each week in my classes, and sometimes at the front of the room near the teachers desk. Whenever I recount the various times I silently cried in class, my friends look horrified.

    Highschool was not kind.

  • Yep, I used Fedora Kinoite now! I originally used Fedora Silverblue, but that used GNOME + Wayland, and I dropped it cause spectacle couldn’t take screenshots in a Wayland based system. I switched to Kinoite because it uses Plasma instead. I don’t know if Wayland causes clipboard issues, as I never tested/got that far when trying to make Silverblue work. I just rebased cause I couldn’t get ShareX (the tool I used while on Windows) to work with WINE.

I use my clipboard tool with FF and have little to no issues there. The only thing I will note is, Textractor hooks the sentences a little weirdly. None of the hooks are perfect, the best one I can find that isn’t complete gibberish is a hook that simply copies the sentence twice. All the others repeat characters in a sentence like 50 times, so they’re unsalvageable. Not sure if it’s a browser hook thing, or a trying to force Windows apps in weird ways thing, but it’s not as smooth as a process compared to native Windows 😅

  • You totally can, I’ve seen plenty of people with themed icons and shit of their favorite characters or smth, but I think you need an app to do it or to do some magic in shortcuts. I never bothered or figured it out cause I hated my iPhone so much and I feel like they actively discourage people from doing shit.

  • RIP, my ass tends to grip the pencil too hard or smth, and I often cramp up my hand when writing a lot. I had to write paper notes for a class, and another professor made our final exam on paper where you write about 10 terms and do 2 mini essays on a topic.

I really don’t wanna do paper, simply because of how annoying it is (smudge marks, misspelled words, running out of space, having to erase a lot of stuff cause you feel it looks wrong, etc.). Honestly, unless a teacher watches students write their entire assignment in class with no technology out, what’s to stop them from just copying down what ChatGPT wrote for them onto paper?

  • Huh? You can totally change the advanced settings (about:config) for Ironfox. I literally had to do that a few months ago to get a certain feature working for an extension I use cause some javascript and SCP settings were disabled for privacy/security.

Now, I completely understand why you wouldn’t want to spend hours tweaking settings and reading Mozilla’s source code forms to get stuff to work, so if that’s the reason for switching then I get it. But you can absolutely change the config settings, unlike vanilla Android Firefox which doesn’t enable about:config

  • I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little bit of an extensions hoarder, which is bad for fingerprinting 😣, but I seriously do use the extra ones.

    Vital:

uBlock - obviously, some people even suggest to only use this extension and nothing else to reduce fingerprinting. Make sure to enable those filters! Also check out the advanced mode, eliminates the need for NoScript.

Not Vital But Really Good To Have:

LibRedirect - Never worry again about visiting the original social media site, you can immediately be redirected to a proxy version of the site that doesn’t stalk you. Great when I’m forced to click a Twitter, Reddit, Youtube, etc. link. Unfortunately, some proxy services are dead (Instagram, Tiktok, Invidious is always under threat, etc.)

    Bitwarden - Password manager

Dark Reader - Nice, especially on fingerprint resisting browsers like Librewolf that don’t let your browser/sites see your system settings to automatically pick the dark mode of a website. Have singed my eyes a couple times.

    For Language Learners (like me):

Yomitan - The GOAT of tools, a popup dictionary that can be used to instantly look up the definition of a word in your target language, and connects with Anki, a flashcard app. I use it for making vocabulary cards from Japanese media I consume. Literally all the other resources are meant to be paired with this.

Asbplayer - Lets you add subtitles to whatever media you’re streaming and makes the text selectable. Paired with Yomitan, you can easily make Anki flashcards from the TV/Movies/Videos you watch.

Lap Clipboard Inserter - By using a clipboard extension with Textractor, you can hook a game/visual novel and auto-copy all the game text to a webpage, which can be paired with Yomitan (you guessed it!) to look up words. You have to turn it on for individual pages, so don’t worry about it constantly stalking you.

    Neat, But Random:

Mastodon Streetpass - Helps you figure out if a person is on Mastodon by looking for a custom link on their site. Collects a list of them and tells you the date that it found the account. Basically just browse as usual and it will passively collect a list.

So happy the article linked to the Fediverse post, immediately liked and boosted it.

Never used SimpleX much really but will be immediately uninstalling it. Saw the guy’s tweets, he’s fucking insane, and retweets RFK Jr 🤢. Will do my best to inform others.
