  • It’s basically the same. Lemmy is kind of what reddit felt like before it got huge and astroturfed, it’s smaller which can be as much a benefit as a detriment depending what your after. I find interaction here tends to feel more human than reddit, on reddit comment threads especially in political subreddits you already know what the comments are gonna say before you get there, here i feel as though there is a bit more genuine thought. That being said Lemmy is not immune to echo chambers or trolls, as any bit of the internet is. Just use as you would use reddit honestly and just know your likely not to see as much content, but the content you see will get a more GENUINE feeling interaction. That’s my take anyhow.

  • Yes your right I suppose what I’m getting at is the whole give a man a fish saying. Yes for a lot of the homeless that step may be all they need I know homeless with jobs using other people they know addresses for work and bank accts and such but if you don’t have anybody even that step can be insurmountable. Maslow’s hierarchy and what not, shelter and food are pretty much ur most basic needs and anything more is useless without that. Add access to reasonable healthcare and perhaps homelessness could be solved.

  • Housing the homeless just gets them to stop sleeping on benches temporarily. It helps YOU from seeing the “unsightly hobos” in ur community. It does not solve the core issues that their having a hard time participating in our society, and is a band aid solution. Homeless people either have mental issues that need mended, drug issues that need mended, or have fallen on hard times but still need not only a home but a job to hold down that will pay for their housing and food. If it was as simple as putting homeless up in houses we would have eradicated this issue decades ago if nothing to keep the bourgeoisie from having to see the poors. Without the means to maintain and upkeep their homes they will just end up on the street again in no time.

  • I have not used open scad or freecad! The thing about fusion that works so well for us at work is we can design prototypes and 3d print them out of plastic, and if the test fit goes well we can then move it over to our plasma machine and cut the parts from sheet stock then weld together to make our component. We also do some more component design (think central inflation systems though wheel hubs) but the more advanced stuff the boss handles. For us to adopt at work I think it would have to have compatibility with fusion 360 as that’s what my boss uses primarily and we have dozens maybe hundreds of design files to cut brackets for engine swaps gas tank mounts control arm brackets you name it. Suppose it’s probably a bit late for us to make any move to Linux, especially considering we just got a 4 axis cnc mill and I don’t think any Linux software will play with that

  • I used to regularly work 55-60 hour weeks. For a while between 2 jobs then at one. After a decade or so I have a house and work 45 hours a week on average, I keep feeling like I should work more as the bills are still tough but fuck I don’t miss working more than I do. If u have to do it, it doesn’t seem as bad than if you don’t. Perspective matters a lot.

  • Bmw drivers may drove fast and reckless, but at least they are actually holding the steering wheel and looking at the road most of the time. Tesla drivers aren’t even that they just sit there and scroll on their phones. Drives me nuts I’ve laid on the horn next to people watching TV and got a dirty look and a bird followed by continuing their film. They get a nice test of the auto braking on occasion.

  • Call me an and fanboy but I have run nothing but and hardware for ages. They have always been better price for performance in my budget. Their really not shooting their own legs off when consumers don’t have a choice today. You cannot build a budget rig on Intel and Nvidia parts, there simply aren’t making good price to performance products. If u want a cheap solid 1080p PC u need a Ryzen CPU and a rx6600 that’s just the formula today. If your upset that a mid range card from almost 5 years ago isn’t getting the latest and greatest features of today’s card then perhaps you need to look a little harder into what Nvidia updates were coming out after 9+ years on Nvidia. Something tells me it wasn’t to add the newest cards features to the decade old house that don’t have supporting architecture… And is still providing day zero game updates to rdna 1 and 2 so I’m not sure what the fuss is about. Just sounds like people looking for an excuse to rag on AMD 🤷
