Hello Lemmings! For the past year or so, I’ve been working on a solo project, and I’m kinda close to being finished with it! It’s a punk rock album, made with mostly open-source tools (the only non-FOSS stuff is a couple of plugins that didn’t have good open-source alternatives)!
I’ve seen other folks promote their games here, but so far I haven’t seen any music done this way, and I was wondering if it’s maybe not allowed? Some sort of Lemmy faux pas? If it is, indeed, allowed, then what communities would be amenable to maybe a twice weekly post? Should one make their own community for this purpose? What about a general purpose community for self-promotion, i.e. “imadethis” back on the old place? As you can see, much to consider. (I don’t have anything out yet, so this post in itself is not self-promotion.)
What say ye, o wise Lemmings?
- Post your shit, don’t be excessive. If it gets deleted for self promo in one community, there’s several alternatives. If it gets deleted in every community, reassess your messaging lol. - This platform requires OC to survive, or else we’re just a mirror for other sites. Deleting OC because it comes from the Creator seems short-sighted, but I’m also not a mod. So, ymmv. - Yeah, fair enough, just thought I’d get a feel for the vibe before I just did the thing. It’s probably gonna be at least a month before I release anything, but like I said in the post, I don’t see other musicians posting their stuff here, so I just wanted to make sure it was cool.

- deleted by creator - Thanks! Yeah, me too lol, it’d be kind of a bummer to have put all this work into it and then no one listens to my tunes! Most of them are pretty good!

- Thanks! You’d be the guy to know what communities go with which posts haha

- Congratulations and good luck with your publication! - If you want to avoid conflicts maybe drop a short message to one of the mods upfront but otherwise I wouldn’t worry too much! :) - Cool, yeah will do!

- some good comments here, I’d just add two things: - be genuine in your posts
- don’t post to lots of communities at the same time - I will ban posters if I see 3 or more posts landing on my instance
 - But other than than I hope to see you OC sometime - 3 or more posts - Alright, but what if my music is applicable to more than one community? Like, it’s a punk album, so I’ll probably post it on the music communities and the punk communities, as well as the aforementioned [email protected]. Not trying to spam, but just typing “music” in the search bar brings up five communities where my content would be applicable. Good looking out though, that’s why I asked! - just take care, lemmy is still small so it is easy to flood a front page - For sure!
