I just had the most aweful experience with BluePearl and im wondering how common it is. They did ultrasound and determined she had pirometria and did an emergency spay which they said due to the urgency had to be a big cut job. Then they hung on to her for three days telling us each day they were concerned. My wife brought more of her hydrolyzed food the second day and said they kept her in a kennel and she smelt bad. We had to fight to get her discharged the next day and I was getting pretty upset about the whole thing. When we got her she had her own shit all over her and I could smell that her fur near her head was not smelly so im sure she must have had been lying in her own shit when my wife came by to see her but she did not realize it thinking the facility smelled. We also can identify at least three lies in what they told us so we are suspect of everything they have said and it feels like they just treat the emergencies like they are cash cows.
EDITED - UPDATE -I think we are up to six lies. I sorta forgot about some of the financials. So they told my wife what she paid would cover through tuesday but then when she was there said she owed more. She brought up what they said and they denied it. We are counting that as two lies. Then when she came in the day before she commented on how yucky the cone was and they told her she would have a new one when they gave her to us and it was the same very yucked up cone. We found feces on the cone when we washed it down at home. When they discharge we were told the follow up would be included in what we had already paid but my wife does not see it listed in the charges and given the other thing we encountered with payment we are assuming it was BS and we don’t want to go back to them. We are working with our vet to do followup.
Jesus Christ. I’m sorry she had to go through that.
Appreciate it. Im really sorta curious though if these type of nightmare situations are common with them or if we were just a lucky special case.
I’ve never used Blue Pearl. I go to one of two local emergency vets, one is decent but hella affordable and gets booked up really fast, the other is pricy, but is super nice and always has space.
BluePearl sounds like the second option you have. The front is very nice and clean and they are great with paperwork and talking a good game and have expensive snacks sitting in the waiting room but I could give an eff about such things. Its about how my dog comes back. I mean they could have neglected her and at least put in the effort to clean her up last minute so it would not be so obvious. I guess Im glad they were that obvious though.
Not American, but I heard it’s extremely common.
We do not go to that place, but the one called Veterinary Emergency Group is outrageously expensive but at least here they are very professional and competent. Clean facility, careful and thorough care. I sincerely hope to never use them again but they did a good job. All the follow up was done with our vet, they transmit the records to him electronically.
