The nest has only been empty a handful of days this summer.
Why did you want to put part of a log on your garage?
Seems like a great bird nest - but is that creating a termite or moisture risk?
When we first moved into this house, she nested in a citronella candle that was hanging on that wall. I hoped she would use the log instead. But I didn’t expect 5 maybe 6 broods…

Do you want mourning doves? Because that’s how you get mourning doves.
Gotta ask why you did it then…
It’ll be fine for a year or two, but you really don’t want it there once it starts to rot.
I put foam between it and the wall. Not hurting the wall yet. I hoped she would use it but didn’t expect her to have 5 maybe 6 broods.
Foam will give you more time…
But the concern is it’s going to attract carpenter ants or termites, and they’ll quickly spread to the rest of your garage and start eating/living in the truces causing an eventual roof collapse.
It’s a great idea and good for the environment, just be careful it don’t result in actual damage.
They’re such beautiful birds. What a great place to nest.
