73 million seconds@fosstodon.orgtoVirtual Reality@feddit.de•They said it wasn't possible ... HL Alyx (PC VR) on PSVR?1·2 years agoExternal trackers… so that sounds like they literally just use it as a display that has no idea how your head is oriented or moves. All that has to be added through other hardware. Which makes sense since that probably is one of the most challenging things to implement for this, still a very long way to go for anything actually usable if it even happens.

Prigozhin is (was) in Putin’s inner circle and Wagner was a tool of the Russian government. I don’t think this is all that different from a faction in the armed forces trying to stage a coup as happened during Soviet times.
Of course when nukes are fought over it is always scary anyway which is why the USA didn’t really want the Soviet Union to fall apart either.
Haven’t watched this in full yet but the “race to the bottom” type comments about how you need to make a device that people actually want I heard about from @davemark here on Mastodon.
#PalmerLuckey said that before too, in the context of the Oculus Quest that time IIRC. He’s not entirely wrong in that we do need the high end devices that offer the best experience possible to drive things forward. Personally I just think we can and should have the low-end too.
Interesting video. Didn’t see anything particularly exceptional here but nice to see the UI in any case.
Would have loved to have seen some more desktop-like windowing features but aside from being able to open and place more than one open application I didn’t catch anything. I think the mobile phone / tablet legacy of the standalone devices is holding back the UX ideas to an extent, VR has the potential to be much more PC-like.
73 million seconds@fosstodon.orgto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Windows vs Steam OS for your deck?1·2 years agoThanks, this was quite informative as to what the state of things are on the Windows side.
That said, I highly dislike the idea of undermining Valve’s efforts to get PC gaming less dependent on Windows so certainly will not be using any of this.
Just note that several large mastodon instances including mastodon.social have blocked bird.makeup so it unfortunately is not available everywhere (personally I find it irreplaceable)
I think it has been fairly apparent since the release of the quest after which Meta started no new projects targeting PC and of course many developers shited their attention to that standalone too.
Do you also mean lack of ports for games intended for Quest? On the bright side Amid Evil VR reported better sales on PC than Quest. PCVR could also benefit from there now finally being PSVR2 to target alongside it.
Luckily there’s all the VR mods too, Praydog is a hero.

Then again Ukrainians are not always able to equip units well either. Donating helps.
73 million seconds@fosstodon.orgto Selfhosted•So I did figure out that yes, [#Mastodon](https://jammer.social/tags/Mastodon) can federate [#Lemmy](https://jammer.social/tags/Lemmy) and [#Kbin](https://jammer.social/tags/Kbin) content. The problem1·2 years ago@sab @selfhosted @mike Do you know if there is a way to make it a link post from masto or is that also just a limitation for microblogs? It seems like attaching media is at least possible.
@archy does not work through nitter because of the age restriction
I assume this is the same video on mastodon: https://mas.to/@mhmck/110565653781867449

The problem3·2 years ago@mike That is interesting, I was curious about whether it is possible to post to lemmy from mastodon… Seems like part of your message ended up becoming the title so I wonder if there is a way to format the message in a way that won’t look out of place on lemmy

Not sure how accurate 10k a month is but it doesn’t strike me as completely unbeliveable in relation to that.
73 million seconds@fosstodon.orgto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Sweden signed a deal with Ukraine today on the training of Ukrainian pilots on Swedish JAS-39 Gripen fighter Jets to start. 🇺🇦🇸🇪3·2 years ago@BombOmOm I don’t think they have been promised Gripens or even Hornets yet? Swedes are only training and Australia is considering giving their old Hornets
I think the Brits were training them on another fighter in RAF service too.
@arkcom I don’t really see any problem with removing them morally if the license permits it
@c0c0c0 @lesserprophet this is a different Ukraine community. The ban being talked about is https://lemmy.ml/c/Ukraine
Haha, well maybe a bit heretical considering this declares itself to be the successor to steamdeck_linux and not even just steamdeck. Guess I wouldn’t worry about it too much though.
