Because “morality” is a mess (bible lol). Imho only ethics based on universal values and scientific understanding can yield good results. Anyway thanks to the replies I understand the convention to ask permission before taking pictures now. It might be obvious to you but it’s not obvious if you never been to a convention.

Yeah I think that (besides creeps) is the best explanation. Cosplay is a form of art so the “creator” should have some artistic control over it. Otherwise I’d argue “well if you get up on a stage to shine, you’re giving implicit consent”. But one can’t be constantly “on stage”.

Wait “consent before you take a picture of somebody”? You have to ask first before photographing someone else’s cosplay in the US? I thought the laws in US allow taking pictures however you like, without consent required. I’m just curious about the legality in the US, in some European countries there is such a thing as “expectation of privacy”.

    Obviously keep your hands off.

  • The thing is that capitalism is incredibly INEFFICIENT in providing value to society. In a planned economy you could (theoretically) have rational though to maximize benefit for all - in capitalism it’s just grow grow grow. That is why we’re digging so many superfluous ditches. How many roads, how many ditches could be spared if we just build less idiotic sprawling suburbs? If we had a rational, democratic and semi-planned economy?

There is this study that we’d only need 30% of the energy and resources we currently use to provide decent standards of living for every single person on earth.

Of course you’re right, just “doing socialism” won’t get us there easily either.

  • Look closely - how does she still looks good for people. She just dedicated her Nobel price to Trump. It might just be conspiracy lol.

It’s also indisputably true that the US sponsored coups and engaged in economic warfare for over 20 years, and Machado is right there working with the US against Venezuela. How is that peace? So, how DOES she look good? Is it something with your eyes? Or maybe with the words you read that you allow to program your mind? Like brainwashing? Like, how even the Nobel committee thinks she is a good person? How can people have a good opinion with her?

And more importantly, how can you have a democracy when people are this brainwashed? How do you defend against it? How should Venezuela defend itself against this hybrid war?

  • Obviously not. Think about supply and demand. Because a toxic product is being hailed as secure there isn’t enough demand for an actually anonymous and private messenger. So calling signal “secure” is just helping state security.

If you actually want to message about revolutionary (illegal, “terrorist”) activity and don’t want to be traced immediately by an agent of state security or an informant, Signal offers nothing (unless you use criminal activity like identity theft). In such a case a warrant will obviously be granted and they can immediately find and arrest you.

Can you see the logic how Signal isn’t secure at all for an actual dissident?
