Was the leftist vote what lost the election? I dont think it was. So I dont think it matters what lefitst wanted or thought, they had no choice but to vote “the lesser of two evils” or shoot themself in the foot. Idc what option they choose, the vote was decided by middle ground voters who were influenced by online discourse.

We should develop robust safety nets to prevent this. We have the resources to make decent groceries and shelter available to everyone. We need to push back hard against every attempt to resist making it actually happen

Yeah I think we mostly agree on this and what needs to be done economically since we’re on lemmy. I also want to point out that bottom 50% of income is a big range of incomes from all over the country and there is plenty of people living comfortably in that range.

Middle class people will look out the weekly costs and say “how can they survive” and somedays I honestly dont but i know people will always be poor and I was just trying to make the point that poor doesnt mean lifes over it means lifes harder.

She lost because more people wanted Trump and it was never about age or policy or leadership. Mindless people got swept up in the right wing hype because every single right winger was shouting from the roof tops about how great Trump was while lefties were attacking their candiates.

I accept reality and wouldnt run Biden/bernie/harris I’d run a decently charismatic white man in their 40s with middle of the road policy and it would win.

You are delusional if you saw that performance and thought he was the correct candidate for the democratic party.

Its not about the correct candidate for the party, that was decided a long time ago. Its about which person is the best to lead the country out of the two people on stage. Thats it. If you walked away thinking trump was the better of the two people to lead then you’re an idiot and I dont know how else to explain that to you.

Biden kept bringing the debate back to the issue of immigration. That was Trump’s largest strength in polling

No once again, you are completely wrong to what actually happened. Immigration was mentioned by Biden once as a response to a question about immigration. Every single other time was trump shoe horning immigration into his own answer.

    He beat Medicare

Here is full bidens response to the question. Which is talking about increasing taxes on the wealthy to strengthen social programs.

    Initial question and trumps response

TAPPER: President Trump, over the last eight years, under both of your administrations, the national debt soared to record highs. And according to a new non-partisan analysis, President Trump, your administration approved $8.4 trillion in new debt. While so far, President Biden, you’ve approved $4.3 trillion in new debt.

So former President Trump, many of the tax cuts that you signed into law are set to expire next year. You want to extend them and go even further, you say. With the U.S. facing trillion-dollar deficits and record debt, why should top earners and corporations pay even less in taxes than they do now?

TRUMP: Because the tax cuts spurred the greatest economy that we’ve ever seen just prior to COVID, and even after COVID. It was so strong that we were able to get through COVID much better than just about any other country. But we spurred – that tax spurred.

Now, when we cut the taxes – as an example, the corporate tax was cut down to 21 percent from 39 percent, plus beyond that – we took in more revenue with much less tax and companies were bringing back trillions of dollars back into our country.

The country was going like never before. And we were ready to start paying down debt. We were ready to start using the liquid gold right under our feet, the oil and gas right under our feet. We were going to have something that nobody else has had. We got hit with COVID. We did a lot to fix it. I gave him an unbelievable situation, with all of the therapeutics and all of the things that we came up with. We – we gave him something great.

Remember, more people died under his administration, even though we had largely fixed it. More people died under his administration than our administration, and we were right in the middle of it. Something which a lot of people don’t like to talk about, but he had far more people dying in his administration.

He did the mandate, which is a disaster. Mandating it. The vaccine went out. He did a mandate on the vaccine, which is the thing that people most objected to about the vaccine. And he did a very poor job, just a very poor job.

And I will tell you, not only poor there, but throughout the entire world, we’re no longer respected as a country. They don’t respect our leadership. They don’t respect the United States anymore.

We’re like a Third World nation. Between weaponization of his election, trying to go after his political opponent, all of the things he’s done, we’ve become like a Third World nation. And it’s a shame the damage he’s done to our country.

And I’d love to ask him, and will, why he allowed millions of people to come in here from prisons, jails and mental institutions to come into our country and destroy our country.

TAPPER: President Trump, we will get to immigration later in this block.

Bidens answer where he says we beat medicare instead of we beat big pharma

President Biden, I want to give you an opportunity to respond to this question about the national debt.

BIDEN: He had the largest national debt of any president four-year period, number one.

Number two, he got $2 trillion tax cut, benefited the very wealthy.

What I’m going to do is fix the taxes.

For example, we have a thousand trillionaires in America – I mean, billionaires in America. And what’s happening? They’re in a situation where they, in fact, pay 8.2 percent in taxes. If they just paid 24 percent or 25 percent, either one of those numbers, they’d raised $500 million – billion dollars, I should say, in a 10-year period.

We’d be able to right – wipe out his debt. We’d be able to help make sure that – all those things we need to do, childcare, elder care, making sure that we continue to strengthen our healthcare system, making sure that we’re able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I’ve been able to do with the COVID – excuse me, with dealing with everything we have to do with.

Look, if – we finally beat Medicare.

    TAPPER: Thank you, President Biden.

    trumps final response

    President Trump?

TRUMP: Well, he’s right: He did beat Medicaid (ph). He beat it to death. And he’s destroying Medicare, because all of these people are coming in, they’re putting them on Medicare, they’re putting them on Social Security. They’re going to destroy Social Security.

This man is going to single-handedly destroy Social Security. These millions and millions of people coming in, they’re trying to put them on Social Security. He will wipe out Social Security. He will wipe out Medicare. So he was right in the way he finished that sentence, and it’s a shame.

What’s happened to our country in the last four years is not to be believed. Foreign countries – I’m friends with a lot of people. They cannot believe what happened to the United States of America. We’re no longer respected. They don’t like us. We give them everything they want, and they – they think we’re stupid. They think we’re very stupid people.

What we’re doing for other countries, and they do nothing for us. What this man has done is absolutely criminal.

    TAPPER: Thank you, President Trump.

How is this at all convincing to you? Are you even thinking when you’re watching the debates or do you just sit there trying to see which candiate has the strongest aura. If you were to say I think he lost because the American public is stupid id agree but you’re saying YOU think he was not the best candidate on that stage based on his intelligence which makes me heavily question what you consider to be intelligent. Please consider whats making you think this way and change it.

and when they brought out a candiate without that concern it changed nothing for all the right wingers who were saying I cant vote for biden because mental health. Now bring up trumps mental health to them and they are oblivious. So I dont know how anyone can argue it was ever a valid concern to voters who choose not to vote dems.

I’ve had this argument so many times so I wont be the one to bring examples. But if you truly believe what you said then you should be able to point to a single instance in the entire debate where trump answered a question better than biden. Please pick one and we can argue about it. I’m of the opinion that every single question biden answered was more coherent than any question trump answered. The only reason you would think otherwise is if you completely lose all logic and reasoning after hearing someone stutter or not speak loudly.

Biden would acknowledge the issue, cite policy he has already passed which addressed the issue and then speak about policy which he was working on to further address the issue. He did this for every single question.

But I guess he losses because trump makes a funny face and joke? Have some respect for yourself because i’d never be caught dead saying thats all it took to convince me.

It doesnt come off to me like that. To me it comes off as the person posting the meme telling poor people that there is nothing for them in society and that is offensive. I know the person is not Rich because rich people dont think about what poor people do outside of work, they just dont care or they’re so out of touch they think poor people are doing fine and just wasting the excess money.

The people who have the expectation of poor life in the meme are middle class people. But they’re wrong, there is plenty of life to live if you’re poor. I grew up poor and I bet my family was far happier than most middle class families. When you’re poor you dont just work extra hours for no reason, its always done for something. That may be to fix a broken car or to pay rent on a place you can barely afford so your kids can have a better life or it may be just to get something nice for a loved one. When I ask my Dad why he did backbreaking work for 12-16 hours a day he will say it was worth it to give my sister and I a better life.

If the person making this tweet was right then poor people should leave the US. But I dont think they should as a decent life can still be had here even if you are in the bottom 50% of income.

yeah you’re right he would have, but thats a reflection on the voting population of america. When I watched those two Biden was clearly more intelligent, thoughtful an well spoken which is what I look for in a leader. But I guess other people just pick whoever acts more confident. As apparent by all the people judging the debate off a single out of context soundbite.

You act like biden had no policy but stood on many issues. Even if we just look at the policy he passed he stood for a lot. If we expand to the policy he tried to pass he stood for even more.

He had real solutions to the problems, they were boring and bureaucratic but thats whats required. Putting a freeze on rent isnt going to fix house prices or cost of living. Only investment will fix that.
