Women's Hockey / PWHL@reddthat.com•PWHL Expansion: "There Is A Line Of Cities Eager To Have Us There"English
1·8 hours agoFew weeks is too long! I wanna know now:
“Even though it will cost us more money, we’re ready to expand,” PWHL Advisory Board member Stan Kasten told media prior to the game. “There is a line of cities eager to have us there whether it’s for a couple Takeover Tour games or for a full time team.”
“We’re going to have news about that in the next few weeks.”

Women's Hockey / PWHL@reddthat.com•"I’m Not Surprised That We Sold Out MSG" — New York Shines Bright For Sirens Shootout WinEnglish
2·8 hours ago18,006 ain’t bad:
“It’s funny because people ask if I’m surprised…I’m not surprised that we sold out MSG," said Seattle Torrent and Team USA captain Hilary Knight. "It’s a testament to the caliber of play that we have, our fanbase, the product that we put together and the work that we do when the lights aren’t bright. So, to finally have this moment, and I hope it’s not a moment, I hope we’re back here, it’s truly incredible. Even if we were getting booed or cheered for it didn’t really matter, it was an awesome moment for women’s hockey and to be a part of a game where you set a record is truly outstanding.”

MLS - Major League Soccer•MLS commissioner: Fifa ‘smart’ to use dynamic pricing for World Cup ticketsEnglish
2·8 hours agoGotta love the argument that higher prices makes tickets more accessible:
“I think the president of Fifa has been pretty clear to say it’s going to be dozens and dozens of Super Bowls, and nobody seems to have issues with championship events that have ticket pricing that’s appropriate for the exclusivity and nature of that event,” he said. “So Fifa has been smart. They have variable ticket pricing and I’m hoping they’ll be providing access to anybody that wants to buy a ticket. It’s not really for me to comment on pricing. [MLS] has nothing to do with that, it’s Fifa’s decision. But I think it’s going to be a premier event and premier pricing Americans are used to.”
Oh sorry, I thought we were having a different conversation altogether – reasonable voting strategies for moving the overton window to the left

No Stupid Questions•which job should i work? tutor or barista?English
5·20 hours agoNo one teaching style works for everyone. What makes you a poor tutor for one student makes you an excellent tutor for another. I can tell you for certain, no-one can deduce whether you’re “good enough” to be a tutor via reddit.
I feel good about saying Claudia de la Cruz would be a better president than Donald Trump, and that the DNC machinery is very clear on what kind of candidate they’d have to run to pull votes from the PSL’s voter base.

No Stupid Questions•which job should i work? tutor or barista?English
5·22 hours agoI would say tutor. I think it’ll be a better long-term career move, and there are so many students on the spectrum who could benefit from someone who has a similar experience sharing the techniques they’ve learned that work for them. Barista might be more comfortable, but I think tutoring will build your skill set more long-term. And you can always change! No shame in trying the one, deciding it’s not for you, and switching to the other.
The Nixon voters I’ve talked to really did believe he was a great candidate, and were deeply betrayed by the corruption because they had such high hopes, but it’s a real small sample size. I doubt there’s any way to conclusively prove it either way because voters aren’t a monolith — someone’s ideal candidate is someone else’s lesser evil. I just don’t think of the hippie movement as a bunch of “lesser evil” folks was more my line of thinking.
That’s a whole new sentiment not present in the graphic at all. Ballots have more options than “evil” and “lesser evil” — most of them have a couple of candidates raising awareness on single issues, a few almost certainly insane people, and one or two actually good candidates everyone thinks it would be a waste to vote for because they’re third party.
For your point to stand, you’ll have to demonstrate that the political left has been pushing the “vote the lesser evil” line continuously since the 50s. I wasn’t there, but my impression of the 60s and 70s is arguing that one should vote the lesser evil was pretty unpopular, so I’m hesitant to take the shift in politics over that particular timescale as hard evidence against op’s original point.

Women's Hockey / PWHL@reddthat.com•If The PWHL Expansion Draft Occurred Today, Who Would Each Team Protect And Lose?English
1·2 days agoI don’t think I would go quite that far. Because they are free agents, any team can come and offer them a contract next season, not just their current team. There’s nothing to prevent the Fleet from offering Carpy everything they have left under the cap to come back after the draft. The Torrent are just betting they’re the team that will be able to offer the best contract.
Hell yeah. “I’ve never eaten a thing so I cooked it to try it” is top tier mentality.
Some nerds might come in here trying to convince you that isn’t evidence that you’re being tracked, but just a change in the url so that if you copy the address from your address bar it’ll have the tracking id in it, and that if you remove it when sharing you’re fine, but don’t listen to them. Leave the corporate social media behind and embrace fedi.

Women's Hockey / PWHL@reddthat.com•With More Expansion Coming, How Much Of An Impact Will There Be To The PWHL's On-Ice Talent LevelEnglish
2·2 days agoI’m willing to dilute the talent pool short-term because getting new players into the league and getting ice time with the pros is the fastest way to build the player base long-term. And you know, the player pool would get a lot bigger real fast with increased salaries:
With expansion, the additional roster spots will be crucial for the global growth of the game, and any short term detriment to the on-ice product expeienced through the league’s current plans for rapid expansion will be brief, and ultimately, the long term benefit for the league’s talent-level of rapid expansion will be a net positive.
It can be difficult to find something to complain about when we’re winning, but luckily we’re in last place so it’s easy right now. Go Torrent just the same.

Women's Hockey / PWHL@reddthat.com•Three Seasons In, The PWHL Continues To Break Records And Set New Standards Almost NightlyEnglish
2·2 days agoThe piece is a little breathless for a team attendance record, but they’re definitely right that it feels like most every game breaks one at this point:
Friday in Ottawa, the Charge set a new team record home attendance mark dawing 17,114 fans to the Canadian Tire Centre. Last season the Charge played at Canadian Tire Centre for the first time drawing 11,065, a number the team blew out of the water Friday.

World Cup•‘Don’t wait four more years’: World Cup co-hosts Canada offer Italy fans free shirt swapEnglish
1·2 days agoOh, Canada:
“Canada Soccer is inviting Italian-Canadians to get behind the home team,” read a further statement. “On Saturday 4 April from 10am to 2pm (EST), Canada Soccer will be outside Cafe Diplomatico on College Street in Toronto, offering fans the chance to swap their Italy colours for a Canada jersey and join the momentum heading into the Fifa World Cup 2026.”
“Cost: Free. Bring your Italian jersey, leave with a Canadian one,” the statement added. “Available while supplies last, fans are encouraged to arrive early to be kitted out.” The statement also included a message in Italian: “Questa volta è il Canada”, which translates to “This time, it’s Canada.”

Nwsl•Sam Kerr edges toward Chelsea exit after reportedly signing with US club Denver SummitEnglish

Women's Hockey / PWHL@reddthat.com•If The PWHL Expansion Draft Occurred Today, Who Would Each Team Protect And Lose?English
2·2 days agoSomething is strange to me about it being easier to keep players you didn’t sign to an extension than this that you did:
Seattle Torrent
Because the Torrent didn’t sign Hilary Knight, Julia Gosling, or Alex Carpenter to extensions, they can keep these players, as long as they can re-sign them, and Knight has openly stated she plans to stay. It means they can bolster their depth by protecting a group of skaters. Worst case scenario would see expansion teams pluck both goaltenders.

Set a record, even:
