Delta_VOPto Technology•Two New Windows Zero-Days Exploited in the Wild — One Affects Every Version Ever ShippedEnglish261·1 天前yeah, the timing is ‘interesting’
The most disappointing part of school is taking a 101 class and making a bunch of deductions based on what you learn, and then taking the 201 and learning that other people had the same ideas first.
Delta_VOPto Space@mander.xyz•World’s most sensitive experiment detects distortions in space-time smaller than a trillionth of a hairEnglish1·4 天前yeah, its a wild concept to wrap your head around
the further out we look in space, the longer it took for that light to reach us, so its effectively looking backwards through time
I suspect this is incompetence, but once Oracle gets it the enshitification will be due to malice.
Yeah, not sure if its badly configured AI, or an employee not getting paid enough to care.
I wonder if their staff have a ticket quota system that lacks oversight of whether or not the ticket’s support needs were actually addressed before it was closed?

Delta_VOPto Space@mander.xyz•The economic reality of lunar competition: beyond the space race rhetoricEnglish4·11 天前The article has shades of that old, trite Republican line of “Government sucks, and to prove it I’ll get elected and suck at governing.” Its proposed remedy is nonsense as a result, nevertheless it does spell out a real problem that exists.
“If America truly wants to win the lunar competition, it needs to start thinking like economists rather than politicians.”
This is what killed Boeing.
This is what killed Intel. Both were highly successful when they had engineers for CEOs. Their fortunes cratered when accountants took over.

Delta_Vto Hydrogen@piefed.social•World’s First Hydrogen-Powered Bulk Carriers To Have Swedish Fuel CellsEnglish3·13 天前Static infrastructure and shipping are probably the best use cases for hydrogen powered fuel cells. Even when its cryogenically liquefied, pure hydrogen has low energy density, which is a big trade off for smaller vehicles. Ships and buildings have extra volume to spare.
Its exciting to see prototypes entering service. I expect that once they’re scaled up, ships will want to keep ammonia in the fuel tanks and crack the hydrogen off it as needed to feed the fuel cells. The cracking apparatus is more mass and volume - cars can’t afford it but container ships can.
Weakness to Magic stacks exponentially with itself when it comes from 2 different spells.
For example, lets say you have 2 spells with Weakness to Magic 100% for 6 seconds: Spell 1, and Spell 2.
Spell 1: target becomes 100% weak to magic
Spell 2: target becomes 2 * 100% = 200% weak to magic
recast Spell 1: target becomes 2 * 200% = 400% weak to magic
recast Spell 2: target becomes 2 * 400% = 800% weak to magicAnd so on. After a few stacks of that debuff, and you can 1-hit-kill any foe with a spell that deals damage.
Weakness to Magic also works on the player character and it will amplify the effect of buffs. Stacking it before casting your buff spells lets you walk around with millions of health, stamina, and mana for short periods of time.
My experience of the game was similar. I’ve started to make a few characters and lost interest before character generation was complete. The D&D 5e rules just aren’t that interesting from a character creation standpoint. A couple times I did get to the spelljammer, even made it all the way through the prologue once, but then I found that managing progression for several additional mechanically uninteresting characters just made the game even less fun.
Delta_Vto No Stupid Questions•What is lunch like in exclusive private schools for rich kids?English3·14 天前the school’s owner siphons off all the resources, leaving very little for the teachers, staff, and students to utilize.
2 guys cook cafeteria fare for the whole school - they don’t have time to get fancy. they want to make good food, even though they don’t get paid very well, but the ingredients they’re given are mid shelf cans of things purchased from bulk warehouse stores like Costco or Sam’s Club or whatever the local equivalent is. it tastes decent and checks all the nutritional boxes, but is less exciting than food you can make at home or buy from a restaurant.
Delta_Vto Unpopular Opinion•Your MAGA friends and family don't love you and you need to isolate from them if possibleEnglish3·15 天前IDK if its just my local social circles skewing my perception of things, but it really does seem like autistic people tend to have a strong anti-authoritarian leaning.
Sometimes I wonder if that’s why the nazis are so eager to find a ‘cure’. A cynic might think what they’re really after is chemically induced acceptance of injustice and tyranny - ‘vitamins’ they can load into school lunches to turn the entire population into regime collaborators, sympathizers, and apologists.
They’re still talking about doing it if they can’t raise enough money to make it through the next R&D cycle. The deals with Nvidia and USA’s federal government gets them about half way there.
makes you wonder if/how/by who its been used all these years
