Are there actually people who would want to go to a meeting like this? People who would legitimately get excited about listening to a bunch of others prattle on about this shit? If so, I would hate to even imagine what those people are like.

If not, someone went through all the trouble to organize and set up and coordinate all the many things to make this happen, and neither the participants nor the organizer are interested at all.

The corporate world is nightmarish.

This is the main reason I don’t use tiktok, ever since its inception: It was meant as a space for young people and I don’t want to be one of the jerks who intrudes on that.

Yeah, there’s privacy concerns and brainrot pearl-clutching and all of that, but while those are legitimate, my number one reason for not using it has always been that I believe there should be spaces for young people online that adults don’t mess around or intrude in.

I am relaxing after the work week but I feel unproductive and shiftless so it’s not exactly relaxing…

This is how I see it too.

If not for association with the alt right, I at least see it as a sign of “I am a terminally online dork who tries to portray myself as lovably pitiful so as to manipulate others” or “this is a crutch for my low self esteem” or just…well. Some of this is from my own personal biases and experiences, I’ll be forward about that.

So to make a long story short, even without Nazi associations, there’s no good way to use a Pepe in my experience, and no one I know who uses him frequently has been a good person.

I went on a reading blitz in 2023 but haven’t done much since then, which kind of sucks.

I did Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy, loved it. Becky Chambers? Read everything she wrote. Love.

Some other things in there that were kind of dumb but enjoyable (Rysa Aoki’s Light From Distant Stars) or just shallow (Legends & Lattes) or forgettable (Alice Oseman’s Loveless) but I have tried several others and it isn’t sticking.

Too bad; I really do enjoy reading but nothing’s really taking hold.
