

Funny how contemporary the past is when you study it from the point of view of ordinary folks who lived back then - as opposed to the glorious and grandiose stories of leaders, conquerors and nation builders you learn everything you never wanted to know about at school.
That’s the beauty of living history and accounts of everyday life such as the one you’ve posted. Those are much more interesting to me than the “official” history.
