Tech@programming.dev•GitHub will begin charging for self-hosted action runners on March 2026
13·6 days agoI like your comment because I always feel like I’m so late with news that someone will always point out why my suggestion is bad or even worse than the original.
But: atleast with gitlab you can partially* self host it if they are/get bad.
*afaik gitlab’s SaaS (gitlab.com) isn’t entirely open-source. Not sure which bits can not be self hosted.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux is awesome at home, but aren't y'all forced to use Windows at work?
7·7 days agoI’m not forced to, but occasionally my job kinda requires it so I dualboot (most of my coworkers who are on linux run a windows virtual machine when they need it).
But my previous job required windows due to all the industry specific software only working on windows. No chance of getting that to work on linux sadly. Then I just used windows at work. It’s always my employer’s hardware anyway and I like to keep work and free-time separate so it was ok.

5·7 days agoThe game soundtracks of Hades and Hades 2 maybe?
Edit: sorry many of them don’t have lyrics if that’s what you are looking for, but there are a few bangers with lyrics too.

Language Learning@sopuli.xyz•How's your language learning going this week? - Weekly thread
3·7 days agoThat sounds like a lot of progress, nicely done.
I know the struggle and unfortunately there is no way around it except listening and trying to fill the gaps with context until you are able to take it all in at some point. I tried listening “coffee break german” on youtube for awhile and think it helped, but it was a bit boring.

5·7 days agoYup! Lemmy is full of communities that died out because they were not active enough. Then no one posts new content there because last post was from 6 months ago and it’s perceived dead.

5·7 days agoemb already gave a good answer, but I want to add that you can always block a community if you don’t like to create your own curated subscribed-feed and are annoyed at these threads popping up on all-feed.
If you think this community breaks any instance rules on your instance, feel free to report it. Otherwise I highly recommend the above suggestion.

2·8 days agoYup, exactly the same! This time of the year is always like that… But we’ll get over it!
And that is very true unfortunately :/ I think many of us were lurkers and it’s a hard habit to break. But we are slowly getting more monthly active users on threadiverse too, maybe at some point we have a nice frequency of posts in languagelearning too!

3·8 days agoOh yeah I have the same problem with time wasting on the phone. Think for me it’s the stress. Soon I have holiday break!
Piling up those resources is kind of a procrastination type as I understand. Productive though. Do share on this community!
And nice, congratulations! That must be super rewarding! Don’t need to understand or be fast, it’s for learning afterall :)

3·8 days agoAh damn, sounds like there aren’t many resources for Swahili :(
I hope you get something out of duolingo for it and wish you a productive week with Swahili!

2·8 days agoCan relate. Used to enjoy duolingo, now i am annoyed everytime I use it.
Wir haben Zuhausis, Gurke und Mais, order so. Keine ahnung ich spreche kein Deutsch
I’m happy someone is pointing this out. There is so much trash out there that is just maximised for “citation count” because that’s how you get recognition in academia.
One more thing for folks who don’t know: peer reviewed doesn’t always mean someone actually verified shit, let alone read it all.
I’m not saying don’t believe scientists or that the whole research field is a hoax, I just am severely disappointed in the broader scientific community.
You are on lemmy silly…
@[email protected] is this true?

Anti Meme@sopuli.xyz•That is indeed how you do the 3 hand sign in Germany, great job, mister English spy.
5·12 days agoI was so confused in some situations before I realised that some cultures use the thumb to indicate “1” instead of only pulling out the thumb for a full “5”.
But this is nothing in comparison to how Chinese indicate numbers with a hand. That is a whole another system from what I know: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_number_gestures

Lol have to be careful when I say to someone I use lemmy now to not lead them to a cryptocoin.
And start soon, all the names are almost taken! :D

This sounds like the dude wants to become a Leshen
