  • It’s an open and shut case. There is no rational legal argument for ending birthright citizenship.

Unfortunately, this court doesn’t seem to feel bound by little things like laws, precedents, the constitution or reality. If I had to bet on the outcome, I’d assume they will give Trump what he wants yet again. I want to be wrong about that, but at this point I think it’s a safer bet to assume this court will always do the worst thing possible.

    1. Don’t make promises unless you know you won’t have any problem keeping them.

    2. Depending on the context, being early can be just as bad as being late.

    3. Taking ownership is good in an environment where honesty and accountability is respected. There are far too many people that are just looking to assign blame, especially when it involves nuance or technical details they don’t fully understand.

    4. Assuming reasonable discussions where everyone is acting in good faith. There are absolutely times when you need to shut down an argument before it gets a chance to grow.

    5. Don’t be a dick. But you don’t have to cover up everyone else’s dickish behavior, particularly when it negatively impacts the rest of us.

    6. Communicate clearly. But sometimes maybe is the correct answer. Uncertainty is a part of life and needs to be factored into decisions.

    7. Bring solutions if you have them. But not every problem has obvious solutions and sometimes it’s more important to point it out quickly than it is to be the one with the answer.

    8. Under promise and over deliver is generally good advice, but there are also plenty of situations that are strictly pass / fail and extra effort is wasted. Be efficient with your energy and only spend it on stuff that matters to someone.

    9. Be supportive and build others up… within reason. Don’t be full of shit.

    10. Honest feedback is important. Unless it’s a numerical score used for performance metrics, in which case the requirements are almost certainly unreasonable and anything less than perfect or nearly perfect is basically a disaster.

    11. Learn and think, don’t just jump to conclusions. Hard to object to that as long as you aren’t wasting everyone’s time or showing an embarrassing level of ignorance.

    12. Don’t let your emotions stop you from thinking clearly. But that doesn’t mean you should ignore them completely. If nothing else, needing to be dead inside to do your job is probably a good indicator that you should find another job.

Does anyone else find it a bit odd that aliens are all interested in human or nearly human women? One would think that most aliens would be attracted to creatures with similar characteristics to their own species. The ferengi should find us as unappealing as most of us find them.

  • The reasonable solution would have been to include a mechanism for quickly and efficiently overruling these decisions when needed. They have to report to congress about anything that is withheld, but as far as I know they didn’t include a provision that would allow them to reject the given justification and order the release.

  • These are the same shit stains that refer to legal immigrants and refugees as criminal illegals. The ones that condemn the idea of politicized prosecutions and claim no one is above the law while pursuing politicized prosecutions of people for daring to hold Trump accountable and not treating him as entirely above the law. These are the ones touting transparency while cracking down on whistle-blowers.

I could go on all day with this. Everything they say is in bad faith. They don’t care about being right, they just want to throw out soundbites to be repeated by propaganda outlets. Illegal orders are lawful. Following the constitution is seditious. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. There are five lights. The Star Wars sequels are just as good.

And the fact that they know they must lie is all the more damning.

  • All this effort to communicate the idea of bigger or smaller rolls instead of just giving us the total surface area. But then, this isn’t about informing the consumer it’s about making it seem bigger. If they just gave us a total measurement in sq ft that would make it too easy to compare prices.

It’s like guys measuring their dick, they aren’t terribly concerned with the validity of the measurement as long as the result sounds good.

  • My understanding is that the creator wanted each season to follow a new set of characters, with season 2 being the previous generation that founded the organization that horn rimmed glasses guy worked for. But the network said no, and made him slap together a direct follow up. That was already an uphill battle before the writer’s strike.

Kind of unrelated, but season 1 was also supposed to end with all the various characters converging in an epic battle avengers style, but they were over budget and the network weren’t willing to give them more, so instead we got the poochy ending.

  • I’ve seen people object to a 13 month calendar based solely on the idea that you can’t divide the year into quarters. But it’s actually really easy to remember. A quarter is 13 weeks, or 3 months and 1 week. So Q1 ends a week after month three, Q2 ends 2 weeks after month six, Q3 ends 3 weeks after month nine, and q4 ends after month 13 aka the end of the year. And since the calendar doesn’t change, you don’t even need to remember it, just mark the quarter ends once and you’re done forever.

Just compare that to the unnecessary complexity of the Gregorian calendar and the effort it takes to remember basically anything that changes from year to year, or what day of the week any given date or holiday falls on, or even just which months have 30 days and which have 31.
