How are you liking it? I’ve never heard of e/os before, it looks neat. How does it compare to lineage/ graphene?

My camera is still great and still better than my partner’s newer iphone’s. No port wobble yet thankfully and I’ve never used an sd card anyway. This Note 8 is still great in every way so I have no reason to upgrade yet. I want to make it to 10 years at least.

With e/os will updates eventually stop due to your phones hardware? Or can you keep updating perpetually? What I hate is being forced to upgrade a perfectly working phone because someone decided not to allow updates on it anymore and the app rot that follows.

I haven’t used a rom this phone yet because I’m very attached to the stylus as I use this as my art tablet… so that’s the main holdout reason I have.

They don’t need your bank info, they already buy tracking data on you just have to pair that with your card number and phone. Some also have Palantir cameras in the parking lot to track your vehicle.

Literally have no other option where I live other than Dollar General. Unless I want a 2 hour commute.

I’m still sitting on Android 9 on a seven year old phone. They can take my Note 8 from my dead body. Its battery life is still fine and it’s still snappy and fast.

My banking app stopped working so I just use the browser page. A few smart device apps won’t work either, but I have a tablet I keep at home to use for my home control.

Discord still works fine. I have Reddit side loaded, still using RiF after the API fiasco. Those are really the only two things I need an actual app for an even then I’d probably just use the browser if they failed. Most apps still work as of now. Amazon won’t let kindle work on it anymore but fuck Amazon, I just get non-drm stuff on a different reader now.

Most phone companies refused to enable voice over broadband option after the 3g network went down in 2022 but I stayed stubborn and kept calling until finding T-mobile would do it.

I guess I’ll find out what happens when this update is pushed through? It shouldn’t hit me I’d hope.

Port Arthur is the most depressing town I’ve ever been through. The homes are dilapidated and the backdrop is just giant cranes and pipes everywhere.

My mom’s phone is filled with so much adware from the damn sponsored apps in Googleplay she can barely use the phone unless I wipe it every three months.

When I checked the security, it was still set to not allow unverified apps and yet…

I was going to say the same thing… there’s no point to Google android anymore either. I guess we’re all going to LineageOS.

Nintendo isn’t doing much better. I was a Nintendo stan for most my youth but now they’re the leaders in stagnant games and dark patterns. You just can’t trust corporations not to backstab you anymore. Indie and opensource only for me here on.

I look up VPNs on the privacy reddit or lemmy. Some vpns are good, usually the paid ones. The free ones are certainly selling your shit.

It’s just software you install and click the on toggle with.

I was one of the haters when it first launched because I was on dialup at the time and physical discs I bought were forcing me to install steam AND THEN install a massive patch that did not work on dialup. My first day playthrough of Skyrim was ruined because of that. Took a week for that shit to download even though I went physically to a store.

But now Steam is the last man standing between us and corporate greed.

The crafting survival indie games have been good to me for that. Subnautica, zomboid, Ark, rimworld, my dino survival simulators. I have a hard time finding AAA games that do that outside of Red Dead Redemption.

Instead of just placing you in a game with people of similiar skill every game and letting the skill of players determine who wins it tries to force you to keep a 50% winrate.

So for me I was always at silver rank. But that doesn’t matter because you have some hidden MMR no one can see but the game which is really what matters (but then why have rank to begin with??)

So I’m silver in a silver game with a 5 game win streak. Logically you’d think I should go up a rank to be placed in my skill level or whatever.

Instead the game sticks me in a team of bronze players who have no idea how to play while the enemy team is all gold and platinum players. No matter how good you play you can’t carry that, so the game places you into a pre-determined loss situation and punishes you for playing well, making it harder to move up in rank.

Like after winning three games I know I need to brace myself because the game is about to force me to lose.

I assume this is a mechanic to keep people playing longer, because then you get frustrated and want to hit that play again button. If you do a win streak, or even lose a close game, you’re more likely to be satisfied and just log out.

Most games are a steamroll one way or another and that’s not fun to me. I want a challenging, close game, not a free win where the enemy is all bronze and one poor schmuck in gold getting punished for their win streak.

Please just put me in silver games with other silver players, and if your MMR thinks I belong in another rank then just put me in that rank and don’t do that steamroll rubber banding bullshit where how I play doesn’t even matter because the outcome is predetermined anyway.

I just realized how toxic the match making system was and quit. I would end my nights feeling angry and frustrated.

The world felt very empty to me. Hyrule is a very old kingdom, so there should at least be some throwback to the older games like ruins, a history lesson, or something, but the game lore is a void. Not to mention the lack of villages, or even just mention where the people, or if they all died then show that. It’s just empty. Like nothing ever existed. Any ruins you do see has no tieback to anything outside of that game.

We had OoT then Majora’s mask.

Then what came after those two masterpieces was the cartoony Wind Waker and Legend of Zelda was never the same afterwards.

I really like League and by extension other mobas but can’t really say why. I come from an RTS background, so I guess just something about that style of pvp.

I had to stop playing because the matchmaking system is so ass it drained the competitive enjoyment out of me, but if that was fixed I’d be back.

They were good in the 90s. I think Nintendo is just selling nostalgia at this point.
