PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto Meta@social.fossware.space•New Icons for a few Lemmy Communities on FOSSwareEnglish4·2 years agoThe hats are great! The idea of a uniform base icon with different hats based on the community really appeals to me!
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto KDE@lemmy.kde.social•What does the "Files linked to the current activity" setting mean in the Location tab of Destkop Folder Settings?English1·2 years agoMy best guess is that the file explorer will show the location of files related to the activity rather than the home directory
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto No Stupid Questions•What are the reasons to think we are living in a simulation?433·2 years agoEvery time I need to cross a seemingly empty street, suddenly cars appear. I can’t help but imagine it’s a render distance issue.
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spacetoReddit Migration@kbin.social•I don’t understand people who say they can’t figure out Lemmy or KBin0·2 years agoI see, thank you! This makes the choice of instance when signing up more significant than I thought.
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto Android•Would this make long form writing on a smartphone enjoyable?English2·2 years agoI’ve done so and I think my point still stands in terms of the size of the keys. I do agree that having the text show in the middle instead of a blank space for the keyboard is much better than having the text stretched out on the top half of the screen. I personally have not done much if any typing on a split keyboard like that, so I don’t know how comfortable it would be, but I do like your idea of having a touch pad included.
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spacetoReddit Migration@kbin.social•I don’t understand people who say they can’t figure out Lemmy or KBin1·2 years agoI think I understand the terms you have explained, but I am still a little confused on viewing by “all”, when I view “all” am I seeing posts from every instance that is federated with the one I’m on or only the communities/magazines that users on my instance have visited before?
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto Explain Like I'm Five•ELI5: If you're a Christian, why do you have to be good if Jesus will forgive you no matter what?English3·2 years agoThanks for providing more context. The verse does take on a more encouraging tone with it and puts it inline with the other teachings of personally not wanting to sin as a result of a new relationship with God.
I was not aware of the debate surrounding this verse, I just thought it was the most straightforward in addressing the question.
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto Explain Like I'm Five•ELI5: If you're a Christian, why do you have to be good if Jesus will forgive you no matter what?English6·2 years agoFor if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries - Hebrews 10:26-27
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto Android•Would this make long form writing on a smartphone enjoyable?English3·2 years agoGiven that most smartphones are not more than twice as tall as they are wide, wouldn’t having it in the layout you describe leave the same amount of horizontal screen space for the keyboard anyway?
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto FOSS for Android@social.fossware.space•Music Recommadations?English31·2 years agoI’ve heard of people using a combination of a scrobbler and listenbrainz to combine listening history and get new recommendations
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto Meta@social.fossware.space•Server Maintenance and Upgrade finished (Lemmy 0.18.0)English3·2 years agoThanks for putting in all this effort to keep the instance up and running!
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spacetoDnD Memes@sh.itjust.works•Bard doesn't need a reasonEnglish6·2 years agoThis was the closest riddle I could find
I am the sound of silence, I am the bringing of doom, too much of me and you’ll be swept away, swept away like a great broom, the cold is my place of living, and the heat is taken away, taken away by my magnificence, I live in both night or day, I am unseen but very much alive. Who am I?
The answer is the wind
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto Sync for Lemmy•Opinion: Sync shouldn't be open sourceEnglish5·2 years agoThe project owner in open source projects still ultimately get to decide if and when any changes are accepted and implemented, so they would still retain creative control.
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spaceto Futurama •Futurama writer created mathematical theorem for the showEnglish18·2 years agoThe episode is based on a body swap scenario in which no pair of bodies can swap minds more than once. The proof demonstrates that after any sequence of mind switches, each mind can be returned to its original body by using two additional individuals who have not yet swapped minds with anyone.
PangolinPaladin@social.fossware.spacetounix like operating system lovers@sh.itjust.works•I have no idea what I'm doing, help!English3·2 years agoI’d say you can get acquainted simply by using it and learning as you do so. I’d recommend either Ubuntu or Manjaro as these are the two that I’ve used for more than a few hours and are straightforward to install and use. Both Ubuntu and Manjaro have instructions for installation on their websites on creating a bootable USB for installation, the installation wizard will walk you through the process and give you the option of installing it in a separate partition. It is also possible to just run the os from the thumb drive itself to get a feel of it before you install.
It’s perfectly possible, getting certain games to run might be challenging but for the most part of surfing the web, answering emails, creating documents/spreadsheets/slides I almost don’t notice the difference
That’s interesting, I hadn’t heard of either before. Thanks!
