News orgs, and frankly many public institutions, seem to be lliability averse to a fault. My guess is journalists have generally been instructed to use passive language to avoid libel lawsuits due to the expense of settlement or counsel fees.

Passive language has become so common in journalism these days, and the far right terrorist cohort realizes the vocal minority bad faith pearl clutching schtick works well enough that they continue to threaten litigation against objective truth regularly. It’s Trump’s MO, and I assume it works because those being sued are terrified his base will be out for blood if he doesn’t get his way.

The more the news orgs settle and normalize this shit, the more inertia there is to get back to reality. It’s maddening, tbh.

Maybe we should consider going in the opposite direction? Require gun safety and firearms training in elementary, middle, and high school; implement first time gun buyer programs for qualifying low income Americans; ban all concealed carry permits; allow firearms in your carry-on at the airport.

I’m being facetious, but California’s Mulford Act shows Republicans can pass gun control laws if they’re terrified that their outgroups are also armed. Though I’m sure a similar law today would be entirely partisan and only apply to their opposition or something. As a sidenote, I do think everyone should have at least a basic education in gun safety.

Maybe implement a voluntary gun buyback program and tighten up gun laws like Australia? Might not have prevented this case, but it’s better than the old “we’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas” approach.

I had something similar happen to me like 5 years ago. I chopped part of my finger tip off with a slightly rusty axe while camping after having a few too many.

I went into the ER the next day, waited about the same amount of time as you to be seen to have it checked out and get a tetanus booster. I got a bills from each doctor that happened to walk by, totalling in the realm of $2,000 after insurance. Literally all each did was say, “Ouch, lucky you didn’t hit the bone!”

Luckily, my fingertip grew back without nerve damage or anything. I’ll probably try to stay up on my shots and get more confident on dressing myself next time, maybe try and make friends with nurses/vet techs. Shit’s broken on every level.

It’s true that the PS5 has basically no exclusives, but the PS5 also has over double the market share of Xbox. Plus, porting to Xbox is a huge lift since the hardware differences between the Series X and S is like making two ports. It sounds like this studio would rather focus on a single good port to reach as many players as possible before moving to other platforms.

Also, Microsoft definitely has been losing favor recently after mass layoffs (even for studios that have been successful like Virtuos) and multiple game cancellations like Perfect Dark (shuttered the whole studio) and Everwild. Zenimax supposedly had a game in early dev that Phil Spencer could barely put down, but the game was cancelled a few months later.

Some folks are now wondering what the point of them buying up all these studios has been, if they’re just going to cancel their projects years later after giving a thumbs up the whole time. From what I’ve read, it seems like this has been more so Microsoft fucking over Xbox to divert resources towards investing in AI 🤮

I’m a bit further north, but I noticed that egg prices at the local health foods co-ops that source eggs from smaller farms stayed pretty consistent while prices at bigger chain stores that source from mega farms doubled for a while. I assumed the difference was due to increased animal density requiring culling for the mega farms, price gouging, or both.

I’m in agreement with you, though I still think it’s a fair suggestion for people putting the world before themselves to find another line of work too. I’m not saying that’s the only reasonable suggestion. I’m all for trying to mitigate the risk of abuse and trauma in the first place. I took Optional’s comment as an intended show of support to folks that might be struggling with similar abuse in their life.
