  • It depends on the games you like to play. I’m mostly single player or co op, so my biggest issue was actaully because nVidia put out broken drivers earlier this year. Luckily it was pretty easy to roll back to a version before that and wait for a fix. You may need to learn a few terminal commands for that sort of thing but I just searched the internet to learn how, wasnt too hard.

If you play things like battlefield, CoD, etc., their anti cheat stuff does not play nice with linux. I have not tested these waters. I am currently playing Clair Obscure and Hollow Knight (OG) without issue. Also went through plague tale requiem, split fiction, the alters, everspace, lies of P, outer wilds, tempest rising, steam world build, valheim, path of exile 2 this past year. Lies of P and Tempest Rising are where I ran into issues on nvidia drivers but rollback fixed it. Path of Exile 2 had some other weird issue on boot, I think I had to find a config file to force it to dx12 instead of vulkan to boot. Really these are similar sorts of random issues I have always associated with PC gaming when I was on windows, sometimes shit doesnt work on my hardware and I gotta fiddle with it. Protondb.com can be helpful for troubleshooting when that happens.

I am using Bazzite which mimics the steam deck OS. I think the hardest part for me was choosing a distro. Bazzite works well for me since 95% of my PC use is gaming, but there are many others to consider if you want to do other things. Some light internet browsing and word processing are about all I do otherwise. You can load a distro onto a USB stick, boot from USB to try it out, and switch around that way to check out some other options. Then install to hard drive for a more permanent decision.

  • Old guy here. Can one of you explain why people replace random words with rule now? I assume this is a yonger gen thing cause no one around me does this. I can’t figure it out. The word never makes sense in the context its being used in. I’m about to start shaking my fists and yelling at clouds over it.

  • I will admit I had to fiddle with some settings to get it smooth on a few of these games. Par for the course on PC. One thing that I’ve turned off is actually that frame gen stuff - it makes my frames choppy. I think its weird because if I had a variable frame rate normally my gsync monitor handles that but with frame gen it seems to really fuck it up. Otherwise I always set to my monitor resolution and 100% scale, DLSS on, and crank everything to epic. Cant remember if Remnant had RTX but thats one thing I set to medium or low usually, that shit is a hog in almost every game.

  • Its what I drank for 20 years until I got some amazing coffee for my birthday one year. I just couldnt go back. If you’ve retired from military life and have the time to enjoy instead of rushing for ops it might be time to treat yourself.

Also, weigh it. Volumes change with different beans and grinds. Weights dont. Kitchen scales are cheap and easy.

  • I played Remnant 2 on my rtx 3080 and had no issues with it performance wise. I think I had one instance of getting stuck on world geometry but that was it really. Mostly in multiplayer too, played the whole thing with 2 friends.

I also had great experiences with Claire Obscur, Split Fiction, Tempest Rising, The Alters, and Talos Principle 2. All of them are UE5. I dont really like Epic or Tim Sweeney so I wouldnt normally defend them, but its more that I wouldnt be too quick to blame the engine when all these other devs can do it right.
