  • I’m in favor of opting out of this, but not because of privacy concerns. Being able to identify how users vote would take away from conversation, as well as discourage users who would rather avoid being dragged into the conversation from voting at all. Sure, the data is already available to those willing to spin up an instance, but the overwhelming majority of people wouldn’t bother. This really should be opt in instead of opt out.

  • Glad to have stumbled across this community. This was my first time watching a basho, and what a great one it was! Already counting the days till July. Seeing all the ceremonies was very interesting, I feel like I learned a lot about the sport and its history across the 15 days.

I really wanted to see Onosato achieve perfection, but man, what an incredible performance either way.

  • CDs are geat, still burn them all the time. I have a Jellyfin server that hosts my digital music collection, but sometimes I may be going on a long drive without internet and CDs are unmatched for that. No battery, no internet requirement, and hold hundreds of hours of music in a a small book in my backseat.

  • Of course there are the legal benefits people have mentioned, but I think a lot of it is that humans love our symbolism and ceremonious tradition. Sure, the ring and ceremony aren’t what make your bond, but it is symbolically immortalized through them.

Weddings don’t have to be incredibly expensive. My wife doesn’t like diamonds, so I proposed to her with a piece of her birth stone. We had our wedding in a state park, we were able to reserve a large section of it for sub $100. We went with simple silver wedding bands from a local jeweler. The biggest cost was food and drink for 70 people. Even though ours was comparatively cheap for a wedding, you could do it way cheaper. Some couples choose to elope, some have a smaller ceremony with only their closest family. It doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg to be a beautiful day.

It’s been said but heavy cream is a great alternaive, I use about one tablespoon per mug. Sometimes I add a tiny bit of vanilla extract and a small amount of powdered sugar to the cream and whip it with an electric frother.

A dairy free alternative is oat milk, the thicker store bought ones are great, but I usually make my own. Just blend a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of oats to 2 cups of water in a blender for 30 seconds and strain through coffee filters or some salvaged fabric from an old shirt. It can be heated and frothed, then poured over the top of your coffee for a nice foam.

To be honest though, usually if I’m not feeling like straight black coffee I just add 1/2 tbs of brown sugar and that’s more than enough for me.
