Immersing yourself in a hobby can be a good distraction. It’s no fix for your underlying problems, though.
As far as how to get started: maybe just join some communities, watch some videos, tutorials whatever.

You’re somewhat correct of course but the NSFW tag exists for a reason. If there is one entire category of /all you can just filter out due to lack of interest, it should be stuff like that. Maybe at some point we’ll also get an ‘AI’ tag.
The pro of being able to ‘safely’, for lack of a better term, browse /all is being able to discover stuff that you are not subscribed to, stuff you might not find otherwise.
Assume that everyone’s situation and reasoning is different. There is no one thing you can do.
So here is one thing you can do. Usually, people who want out, see no other options anymore. If you are in any position to ask something of this person, try to get them to hold off somehow. If you ask them straight up not to do end it, that’s too much of an ask. You can ask them something smaller, like setting an appointment to do something fun together, in order for them to delay their decision. But you need to try to convince them to do one last thing before following through, and you can all but promise them they can kill themselves after that. Of course, you’ll ask them to do one last thing again, just until they get back on their feet. Realize that they have been wanting to commit suicide for some time and getting to the point where they’d actually do it is a major step and they will probably have difficulty getting there once again after.
It really depends on the current situation as well, you don’t ask someone on a ledge to go see a movie or whatever.
The only good you can do, is to make someone understand that they are loved, not alone and that help is always available. Be careful not to patronize, usually people who get to the point where they would prefer death over life have been in their head long enough to have weighed all the logical options.
Death solves all problems. No man, no problem.
That’s interesting. I figured I’d look it up on a map, see if I could find it without using the search function. I went past Guinea-Bissau and I saw a bunch of little islands with Portuguese names. It took me a while to realize I needed to go further south to find Equatorial Guinea.
I know Angola used to be a colony. You can kind of see how Portugese colonists stayed close to the west African coastline and stopped on offshore islands.
I wonder if there is any connection between Lagos, former capital of Nigeria, and Lagos, Portugal?
Edit: Wikipedia has a source that states it used to be called Eko but Portuguese traders renamed it Lagos for Lagos, Portugal since it was the basis for maritime expeditions to west Africa.

I see. I’ve made it my objective to get caterium up and running as quickly as possible to unlock smart splitters really early. Then I go looking for scraps at crash sites to unlock more in the MAM. Aiming to get the dimensional depot quickly but low priority on that one.
I host a dedicated server and I play with some advanced server settings, namely instant awesome shop unlocks to get access to cosmetics immediately as they are unlocked and instant alternate recipe unlock so that I don’t have to roll the dice on hard drives.
Do you start a game from scratch or do you unlock evening from the start and just build as nice a factory as you can? I’m currently just starting steel. But it’s kinda frustrating to have to wait for resources and unlocks sometimes
If you haven’t yet, I can really recommend reading Satoshi’s whitepaper on what Bitcoin is really for. The fact that crypto is now used as an asset to trade in order to gain ‘old’ money really spits in the face of the ideology of a decentralized ledger. And the fact that a dollar value is assigned to it means it becomes the target of a lot of scams. The fact that a decentralized ledger also means greater anonymity has made it a popular target for illicit activity as well.
But by design, it really only wants to take power away from banks in order to stop devaluation, make it impossible to charge people for transactions and to put control of assets into the hands of individuals. The amount of money currently in circulation is way more than the actual physical amount available, because banks can lend you money they don’t even have. Bitcoin would make this impossible.
I think it’s awesome that Ólafur Arnalds is carrying in Eoin French’s legacy as good as possible. Talos has made such beautiful music and the world of arts will always be missing French’s voice.
It’s funny that the Dutch version is pretty close to what the English one should be: bemoei je met je eigen zaken, literally mind your own business.
Good job, Europe! Now I wonder what it’ll take to really shut down coal production.
Money is an IOU. Bitcoin is an IOU but the ledger is decentralized rather than in control of banks.
Once you start seeing the value of any currency as one of itself rather than trying to express it in a different value system, a Bitcoin needs nothing but its inherent worth as payment.
That said, because we all still use traditional forms of currency, a Bitcoin is now worth, say, 112000 breads. It’s worth two new mid-sized cars.
Value is based on scarcity and demand. If something is hard to come by, like bitcoin currently is, the price is hardly affected. But if demand is higher than the supply, prices skyrocket. Demand dies down the moment people feel like crypto is a scam. Supply will stop since Bitcoin has a physical limit (of the top of my head 21 billion). It is no longer realistic to start mining the stuff and receiving it for payment is just silly at this point.
But to flip it around, what is the value of a US dollar, without expressing it in terms of another currency? It used to be tied to gold. You can’t really state one dollar is equal to, say, one bread. The price of bread has fluctuated. Or, has the value of a dollar fluctuated and has a bread always been worth one pair of socks?
Baseline: everything is worth one of itself and trying to express it in another value system is just a snapshot, a moment in time which will have changed soon after.
They didn’t even get it a shot on target
I stopped smoking weed right before I graduated from college. Those days are pretty much behind me. Alcohol is still a big one though.
And thanks! I will report back in a week or so.
My story today: I’ve been debating getting a smart watch for some time now. Well, I had one, but it only lasted about a day and I couldn’t be bothered to wear it anymore.
I’ve now bought a hybrid smartwatch which lasts over a month. As a bit of an analytics geek, I like tracking stuff like exercise, sleep, body weight, etc. I also like the idea of being able to see trends over time truth historical data.
And my watch told me that I don’t really sleep deeply. Which is a factor in restoring your energy for the next day. Factors that affect this are going to bed late and drinking too close to bedtime. So I’m on a sort of experiment to see if I can get back some deep sleep by not drinking for a while, or at least be more mindful of it on weekdays. I started this last Sunday and I’m still doing okay, even though I had a bit of a tough day at work yesterday and I felt like having a drink but I didn’t.
I really hope at some point I will wake up refreshed and my watch will tell me the same. If it doesn’t, I feel I might as well have a lil drink each night…
And before anyone tries to tell me that my watch isn’t showing me empirical truths and it’s just guessing based on heart rate and movement metrics, I know. I just need the confirmation bias at this point.
Go hang a salami, I’m a palindrome
