Open Source@lemmy.ml•HDMI Forum is unwilling to disclose the 2.1 specification for open-source (Linux): according to AMD, they had submitted a functional, HDMI 2.1-compatible driver [for linux?], which the Forum rejected.
43·9 days agoIf you actually give a fuck about image quality beyond size and brightness, digital signage also isn’t really an option. You won’t find many commercial oled displays, for example.
Best option for home entertainment, imo, is still a consumer TV, that you just never connect to the internet and use a set top box with, instead.

2·14 days agoThing is, for readability’s sake, the cool flashy design elements got reduced so much between announcement and release, that the design is utterly boring now. Makes it completely unnecessary. Looks almost the same as before…

Linux@programming.dev•Building the PERFECT Linux PC with Linus Torvalds - LTT
31·17 days agoI‘ve watched a lot of LTT and WAN show. I do not recall him ever speaking out against unions. He only ever said, he‘d see it as a personal failure as an employer, if his employees felt the need to unionise. He wouldn’t try to stop them if they did though.

PoliticalCompassMemes@piefed.social•Can any beer enthusiasts confirm or deny this PCM?
5·28 days agoWouldn’t call myself an enthusiast but I‘m Bavarian. It’s a bit US centric for my taste.
LMG claims that an investigation by a third party found the allegations of toxic work conditions and sexual misconduct as „unfounded and unfair“. It’s of course anyone’s guess what the reality looks like.
They definitely have improved their reviews and seem much less error prone these days. That union thing is bullshit tho. Linus never claimed he would refuse to let his workers unionise (in fact, iirc, he couldn’t even legally do so in Canada), he just (repeatedly) stated, that he’d see it as a failure on his and his company’s side, if his employees felt the need to unionise in the first place. That’s a big difference.
Can’t say anything to that part as I do not remember it. But I personally believe it to be a non-issue until there’s precedent. Politically, Linus generally seems to be fairly sane. He’s openly a huge fan of Lina Khan, for example and has openly critcised the current US-administration a number of times.
They did acknowledge #1 and #2 as mistakes, miscommunication and growing pains and vowed to do better. I think it was a bit overblown and handled in bad faith by GN‘s reporting. Not that that’s an excuse but imo they did their best to rectify that situation. The reporting has been more accurate and bo other scandal of this type has happened, so far. The investigation about the working conditions and sexual harassment concluded those allegations were „unfounded and unfair“, to use LMG’s words. They did not get into details and it is a he-said/she-said situation. It’s anyone’s guess what/whom to believe.
I think, all in all, Linus stepping back from the CEO position (which, to be clear, he did a little while before those problems came to light) improved upon most, if not all of the problems, as far as I can tell. I do still watch LTT on occasion but less so. Primarily though, because both, my interests changed as did their content.
I‘ve only ever read the German versions but to my knowledge, they have been originally written in french and it’s up to the translators to also translate the humour. As is generally with any media (books, movies, games, etc.).
That can work very well and sometimes translations can even add additional humour that the originals didn’t have.
I think people who use „blue hair“ as a slur don’t do so because they actually have a problem with the colour but with the progressive views that a lot of blue hair wearing people subscribe to.
Ay, fellow aphantasia haver
Also doesn’t help that they live underwater. Makes it kinda hard to harness the power of fire or electricity. Especially the former was very important for human domination
There are copper golems now? Man, I hasn’t even even been that long since I last played Minecraft and I‘d be completely lost by now…
I wouldn’t say I hate any genre. That’s far too strong a word. Dislike or apathy, sure.
But I can think of some genres that just aren’t for me at all. K-Pop for example. I dislike most modern pop already (although there are of course exceptions) and it being in a language I don’t understand and from a culture I‘m unfamiliar with just make the genre completely uninteresting to me. I don’t like it but I don’t hate it either. It’s just not for me.
Although, there is a “genre” I would say I do advertised hate: AI generated music. Although that’s not per se because of the sound but the ethics behind it. It’s a principle stance.
I strongly suspect, I wouldn’t like whatever „music“ anon listens to either
There are far too few shitty sounding electric organs in modern music.
How about the inbetween: a AA game

I don’t like lumping in the individual with the group. I hate blanket statements. All they do is enforce the „us vs them“ mentality that, in my opinion, is a big part of the problem in the first place.
But I also have the privilege of living in a country with a fairly well trained and regulated police force (Germany). I know it’s not perfect but it’s also not terrible.
Most individual cops I‘ve met do their job for the right reasons.
