What is a technology that was nearly perfect upon conception?21·9 days agoIn my Flat we still have a microwave that does not have a rotating plate. Insteadt it has a spinning rotor in the roof that deflects the waves in order to cook food evenly. It works well but it is needlessly complicated compared to modern microwaves.

He had already finished the climb and was hauling up his last bit of gear when he likely rappelled off the end of his rope, Dylan added.
Making knots into the ends of your rappel rope is such a basic basic basic thing that gets drilled into climbing rookies from day one. And yet it still happens even to highly experienced climbers who have done this a million times.
ambitious_bonesto Fuck Cars•In Singapore, owning even a junk car is now considered a luxuryEnglish13·19 days ago[…]because owning a car in this city-state isn’t just about buying the vehicle. You also need to purchase a Certificate of Entitlement (COE)—essentially, a government-issued permit that gives you the right to own a car for ten years. And the current cost? Recent COE premiums for cars have exceeded S$120,000 (≈€82,000).¹ Add the car itself, and suddenly a basic sedan can set you back well over €100,000.

ambitious_bonesto Fuck AI•Meta's Disastrous Smart Glasses Demo Even Worse Than We Thought30·29 days ago“When the chef said, ‘Hey Meta, start Live AI,’ it started every single Ray-Ban Meta’s Live AI in the building,” he said. “And there was a lot of people in that building.”
“That obviously didn’t happen in rehearsal,” Bosworth said. “We didn’t have as many things.”
It wasn’t the only major blunder Meta encountered during its keynote.
Since Meta routed all traffic to its “dev server,” including from all of the headsets in the building, “we DDoS’d ourselves, basically,” Bosworth admitted, referring to a common cyberattack strategy known as a “denial-of-service attack” that attempts to bring a network down by overwhelming it with phony internet traffic.
The Trump Gold Card is a visa based upon an individual’s ability to provide a substantial benefit to the United States. To apply, an applicant must pay a nonrefundable processing fee. Once an applicant’s processing fee is received, the process for visa adjudication will take place, assuming applicants submit additional documents in a timely manner. If approved, an individual must make a gift of $1 million, which has been determined to provide sufficient evidence that the individual will substantially benefit the United States.

ambitious_bonesto Fuck Cars•Car lover and shameful Late Night Host Jay Leno couldn't bribe CA lawmakers let classic cars skip the smog testEnglish297·2 months agoWith a modern car, it’s “plug in, get your money – boom – get out. It’s very quick to get a smog check with a modern car,” Leno said. “It’s not impossible in an older car, but it’s tricky. It takes time and often causes charges four, five, six times more than a regular car.” Leno said classic car owners struggle to even find a shop with the equipment needed to test them.
So it is not even about not getting what they want, it is about being slightly inconvenienced.
