cpressland@celeb.pizzaOPto Linus Tech Tips@lemmy.ml•Is Linus Tech Tips “Stubby” Screwdriver Best? Let's Settle This!English3816·2 years agoCurious, why Mod here if it’s such a rotten company?
All companies are rotten / broken / corrupt, that’s step one of capitalism. What counts, at least in my opinion, is what an organisation is willing to do to admit a mistake and work towards solving it.
LTT: Goes offline, launches an investigation. Nestle: Continues enslaving poor people.
cpressland@celeb.pizzato Apple•In macOS Sonoma, Touch ID for sudo can survive updatesEnglish4·2 years agoI’m genuinely curious, what on a Mac do you routinely use root for? We use Jamf for device management, while I appreciate the scripts it runs almost certainly have superpowers, none of our end users do. Homebrew allows for full package management for CLI utilities without admin rights and Installomator handles GUI applications.

cpressland@celeb.pizzato Apple•In macOS Sonoma, Touch ID for sudo can survive updatesEnglish51·2 years agoThis is great, but I’ve not run sudo on a Mac for daily DevOps duties for at least five years now. If sudo is part of your workflow, question your workflow.
I always liked how the “Prothean” statues got retconned into the “Inusannon. Shame though, tentacle Javik would have been awesome.

cpressland@celeb.pizzato Technology•Firefox to become first mobile browser to support desktop extensions later this yearEnglish16·2 years agoI would kill for this on iOS. Don’t get me wrong, I’m pretty happy with my Safari Extensions, but I’d rather have uBlock Origin, Stylish etc.
cpressland@celeb.pizzato Privacy•Why US tech giants are threatening to quit the UKEnglish16·2 years agoWe didn’t learn the hard way as a result of Brexit. People just have less now and still eat the “It’s the immigrants, not the rich people” headlines every day.
The fact is, most people don’t know what they need or want because they’re not SMEs in these categories.
Politicians being immune to these laws is all the evidence you need to know there’s something fundamentally wrong/corrupt about it.

I’ve recently been looking at Hopscotch: https://github.com/hoppscotch/hoppscotch
But the free version of Postman seems to offer everything we’d want.
I also would have said Apollo. Since that died I’ve not used my phone all that much.
So, right now it’s a tie between Home Assistant and 1Password 8.

cpressland@celeb.pizzato Apple•iPhone 14 Pro users complain of major drops in battery health and capacity after less than a yearEnglish151·2 years agoMy iPhone 14 Pro is hovering around 95%, so only a five percent reduction in 10-11 months. This seems perfectly acceptable to me, but maybe I’m an outlier.
Well, now I know it bothers you so much I can keep spinning up new communities and instances just for you.
It’s the Fediverse, there is no magic algorithm to cater the platform to your specific needs and interests other than you viewing subscriptions instead of “all”. If you dislike it, go back to Facebook and Reddit.
