This is tragic, but not for the obvious reasons. Despite him being a hateful man who added nothing of value to this world, his death will do the same. ITT there are a lot of people who Kirk has negatively impacted. While I don’t blame anybody for how they feel, no one should be cheering or dancing about somebody’s death. But here we are.

What concerns me most is that his death will not make things better for anybody. If anything, I worry that it’ll make things much worse. Those people who followed Kirk will now feel more emboldened in their ideology, and view Kirk as a martyr. Trump and his ilk will probably lash out with more bullshit EOs or enforcement of their illegal policing of innocent people.

Celebrate while you can, as we certainly live in interesting times.

Say what you will about Go Dog Go, but I absolutely love the open and honest exchange between these two. No one got hurt, and no one was rude. And at the end of the day, everybody was better for it.

Maybe if people could learn that their views are not the only views, and that other people’s views are not necessarily right or wrong, in the whole wide world, maybe fewer people would be motivated to “become terrorists”.

It’s quite possible these men have reached the Nirvana of being thick-skinned. If so, we all should be in awe, as that is a rare thing to achieve. It also could be that men are not allowed to show emotion, and would otherwise be condemned if they complained or didn’t “take it like a man”; especially being around a lot of women where they feel even more pressured to show up and be a man.

It’s kind of like when you get a sunburn, and someone comes up and gives you a slap right on the sunburn. Maybe they meant to, or maybe they didn’t. Either way, it’s going to hurt like hell until your sunburn heals.

One of the many things I’ve learned in my two years of therapy is that we carry our pain and trauma around like a big old sunburn, and more often than not we get slapped by other people not realizing we’re hurting already.
