  • Really excited for this and hopefully that means steamvr on Linux will actually start working better! The current Beta build is much better but still lots of work to do.

I’m definitely getting the frame as upgrade from quest 3 which I rarely use due to it being attached to Meta. The controller is no brainer considering that old steamdeck controller is still one of the best controllers on the market. Not sure about steam machine mostly because I just built my own PC - would have totally waited for it if I knew it was coming but it looks so slick.

Very excited for Linux in 2026!

  • I definitely agree with the flawed justice system and tbh that’s really the only reason I’m against death penalty.

Some people are really really bad and if we are 100% sure they are then deleting them from the society is actually a good option as it frees up bandwidth and resources for more productive endeavours. The 100% sure is really hard to get but, as we can see, not always.

The other interesting point is that suffering in “humane sort of banishment” can be viewed as a ethical-purgatory of sorts and maybe we want that even if we’d never see the rehabilitation?

  • How do you rehab a children sex slaver? I simply don’t see that ever happening even if they miracously achieve some enlightenment.

Just like death penalty is a cost on our system rehabilitation can be one so as well when the odds are so against us here.
As in, are we investing millions of our collective resources for a 1% chance of rehabilitating this person or we put them in a dark cave somewhere and collectively forget they exist? Sometimes the latter seems like a better choice.

  • you still can’t become them in order to pursue revenge

I disagree here. This would not be “becoming them” in any way. What I do agree with you though is that the damage of “punish culture” could outweigh the gains of punishment/death in some grand utilitarian sense but from personal philosophy pov I find no problem with not having any sympathy, even as far as “treated as people”, for these objectively horrible monsters.

if the critique is that animal agriculture is killing the planet and serving animal products sends the wrong message, then continuing to serve just some of them is like advocating for handing out smokeless tobacco products rather than cigarettes at a cancer conference…

Where are you getting the “some of the them part”? It’s a prestigious event made to inspire not to have literal impact so it should lead by example and not serve any meat and do all of the inspirational memes (electric cars etc.) and whatnot no matter how actually effective they are.

  • Not to defend it but people have a bit of selective bias here as it was not “very young girls” but <18. Still nasty but it was not out right full pedo shit and more geared to cringe teen culture at the time of “I’m 18 but this 17 year old is jail bait”. Then the subreddit became a big free speech topic and people straight up started posting young teens to really push the topic which proved reddit’s free speech stance wrong and they banned the subreddit.
