I really hated Steinbeck because of required reading in school. I’d decried him at every opportunity since. I dunno what made me take a third chance a few years ago, or honestly a proper chance of my own choosing, but I somehow landed on East of Eden. The book did not disappoint; I was deeply engrossed in it from start to finish. Five stars from me (which I don’t do often) and I really hope you enjoy it.

Yea… there’s no way a tv show is better than a film. No matter how great a show is, there is inevitably padding, stretching, and pacing issues. At least let a release simmer a little bit in the cultural ether before you start making statements that it’s better than a movie still held in the highest regard 50 years later.

Three of his movies are my favorites though I haven’t seen anything of his short of great yet.

    Yojimbo (1961)

Mifune is probably at his coolest here. An action-comedy that plays with every bit of a small town.

    Rashomon (1950)

Groundbreaking and yet it still holds up completely. Incredible use of weather.

    Ran (1985)

If you had to press me, I’d say this is my favorite simply because of his incredible use of color.
