  • Yeah. Private trackers are always a bit weird with their invasive signup stuff. Not gonna defend them on that front. I guess they’re trying to ensure that you haven’t been banned previously. It’s daft but it’s they’re in charge I guess.

I will say though other private trackers seem to have a weird kiss-the-ring and beg forgiveness king of reverence for mods in their forums, but that doesn’t seem to be a thing at MAM thank fuck. It’s kinda sickening the weird god-status mods have in some trackers.

Maintaining a ratio at MAM is a whole different game to trackers that host movies and TV. You can’t ratio-farm with the same methods. The trick is to just continue seeding things indefinitely. Even if you’re not uploading and earning any ratio you still get bonus points and can convert them to upload credit.

It’s true that if you only download things occasionally there’s better alternatives - but that’s ever the case with private trackers of any kind.

  • the title says non-electronic, so you’re dead in the water really.

Anyhoo, if I were living in an apocalypse and had a laptop, would I prefer that it had wikipedia or an LLM?

It really depends on accuracy of the information it’s outputting versus the storage requirements of the model, compared to the storage requirements of a wikipedia dump.

Regardless, it’s kinda comical to imagine a non-technological society being able to consult one of our LLMs without any understanding of technology generally. Like you could ask it to describe the chemical makeup of the star Proxima Centauri and it would give you a response that would sound absolutely infallible and you would have no way to validate it - it would seem to have god-like prescience. Then you could ask it something mundane and it either lies or tells you it’s unable to answer.

  • In my opinion categorizing someone as categorically bad is reductive, lazy thinking.

I’m not saying you need to like pedophile rapists and murderous colonizers.

Merely that going through life categorizing the every day people you meet as good or bad is reductive, lazy thinking and frankly - the basis of undesirable cognitive habits like racism and prejudice.

The people you interact with each day are complex individuals with just as much going on internally as you do. None of them think of themselves as “bad”.
