happydoorsto Selfhosted•What do you think is the best (and cheapest) way to host a new nextcloud instance and website for my local scouts organisation?English1·2 days agoDo you think “alright kids, meeting is officially over. Go home or call your parents. If anyone wants to stay we will be hanging out and teaching server stuff at ____ ‘s house for an hour or two.” Gets around this?
happydoorsto Work Reform•Zoom’s CEO agrees with Bill Gates, Jensen Huang, and Jamie Dimon: A 3-day workweek is coming soon thanks to AI1·3 days agoDoes zoom work a 3 day workweek now? Surely he could help make that happen in a short matter of time. Put your money where your mouth is.
Jeans on a walk outside? Your body, your choice. Dress how you’d like. What I am more curious about is what made them so anal about this rule? Did some guy show up in all denim and almost die of heatstroke. Or are they just controlling people? Kindof intense for somebody else’s pants, especially if the hikes are mild.

happydoorsto World News•Will Smith’s comeback has been a disaster – but does the punishment fit the crime?English8·13 days agoThere’s something ironic about him being able to act like a mature, stable adult on film back in the day but then doesn’t follow through to be genuine in the real day once he’s older
There is also a 17k blackmagic coming out! The high resolution sensors they use aren’t a standard RGB pixel layout though so it’s not a great direct comparison. Like you said though, there’s no pipeline or good workflow for 8k in the slightest. Will take years if the industry decides to push for it
Sheep do tend to be wary and to run away when approached by someone. Seems pretty sensical to me
happydoorsto Ask Lemmy•I've got a road trip planned. It'll be about 2800 mi, 4500 km. I think I'm prepared but sure I'm overlooking things. I'd love to hear your tips and recommendations; your holy grails!2·15 days agoPeople are trying to give advice! You may be surprised if you let your brain get bored and watch the scenery. Take in the environment and people around you. May be good for the grieving process. You only live once! The games will be there when you are back in half a month. My advice is like the others, focus on healthy snacks and hydration. Hanger can easily sour moods in a long journey! Good luck out there

I am a filmmaker and have shot in 6k+ resolution since 2018. The extra pixels are great for the filmmaking side. Pixel binning when stepping down resolutions allows for better noise, color reproduction, sharpened details, and great for re-framing/cropping. 99% of my clients want their stuff in 1080p still! I barely even feel the urge to jump up to 4k unless the quality of the project somehow justifies it. Images have gotten to a good place. Detail won’t provide much more for human enjoyment. I hope they continue to focus on dynamic range, HDR, color accuracy, motion clarity, efficiency, etc. I won’t say no when we step up to 8k as an industry but computing as a whole is not close yet.
happydoorsto Not The Onion•Florida to become first state to end all vaccine mandates, including in schoolsEnglish9·16 days agoUp in Minnesota the only hope I have is that the kids don’t create a national/international crisis when they travel and spread various diseases. We are all in this together.
Isn’t efficiency just getting closer and closer to a perpetual machine? Using science and the physics to the absolute limit!
happydoorsto Ask Lemmy•What are some methods of distributed civil disobedience for Americans?6·20 days agoSame. Making less but similarly the consumerism has all but died in our young family. Just healthcare and food for the most part.
happydoorsto Ask Lemmy•What are some methods of distributed civil disobedience for Americans?25·20 days agoThe fact that top comments on Lemmy, a sophisticated platform, still don’t provide much leverage is a little worrying. I hope we can find a collective way to raise awareness in a news blind world. Shows how far the system has worked to block out civil protest moving markers anymore. My hope is that organized non-violent marches and banners becomes so prevalent that it’s impossible to ignore. Like how MAGA got its image annoyingly all over rural America.
happydoorsto Ask Lemmy•What in your country/area is totally normal but visitors get excited for?1·20 days agoHad the same experience in Ann Arbor, MI. The next day I learned they have a squirrel feeding club and a kid walked around in the morning with granola bars throwing them out to a circle of 20 chubby squirrels
happydoorsto Ask Lemmy•What in your country/area is totally normal but visitors get excited for?1·20 days agoI wonder where you visited! Grey squirrels are rare where I’m from in the US, 90% brown in midwest
I have a friend somewhere in the CDC and it has just been chaos, petitions, layoffs, investigation into ‘dissenting opinions’, and more! These are people who want to protect our people from chemicals and more. Ughhhhhghghghghfjqlwoeux
