i’m not that familiar with the matter, but iirc there were some controversies regarding FUTO (smth like claiming to sponsor some projects and using their logos without permission and just making some one-off donation)

agreed, the telegram client is very well made. runs smoothly even on my core2duo.
but the service as a whole, doesn’t seem ‘better’ than discord on the privacy side, just the same level. telegram even provides stuff like unlimited storage (which is too good to be true) and don’t have a clear monetization scheme, advertises like an encrypted messenger when almost nobody uses their e2ee feature. the whole thing looks like a honeypot to me.

Showerthoughts•Why doesn't holding the Volume-down button mute the phone?
2·2 days agodoes this work reliably for you? for some reason apps like this using android’s accessibility service seemed to stop working for me after a while, even after disabling battery optimization.
discord doesn’t need phone numbers but forbids 3rd party client implementations. telegram needs phone numbers and mandates their proprietary client for registration.
imo they’re both equally bad lol

Android@lemdro.id•Exclusive: Android could soon get its own AirDrop-style 'tap to share' featureEnglish
1·2 days agoairdrop, while proprietary, seems to be a pretty stable and reliable protocol considering its backwards compat (from iphone 5 to latest) and usability… recently heard google started supporting airdrop with iphones on their phones, maybe can airdrop itself just be used instead of just a ‘similar’ one…?

Linux@lemmy.ml•If I wanted to buy a Linux phone, what would be my best options today?
8·2 days agosomething that’s officially supported by either ubports or sailfishos. postmarketos/mobian/etc is great but still seems pretty rough.
that seems like a great system, i wonder how it’s structured.
seems to be decent for OCR, maybe also speech recognition. i hear it’s okay for finding some concept you can explain abstractly but don’t know the exact word for, but haven’t tried this personally.

62·2 days agotbh i think its better to have piracy stuff on github and keep ban evading rather than places like codeberg. codeberg might actually fall apart if some copyright troll decides it’s annoying…
slackware ftw

1·2 days agoi don’t have a wacom tablet to test, sorry. generally all seems to work, graphics driver seem to be ported over from linux and synced to latest periodically. it might be better because i never have the latest hardware…
indeed most things should just work after recompiling, but with freebsd’s great linux compat you can just run docker containers for example.

1·3 days agoi usually use freebsd (haven’t tried openbsd yet…) and its linux binary compat is almost perfect, it surprisingly just works for most things although there are some rough edges as a desktop.
not sure if there’s one available in your area, but maybe try another less spicy ramyun
probably a mix of azure linux, windows server and some other linux distros

hell yeah
