This is an awful post, but also, you are wrong.

Ontario@lemmy.ca•The Ontario Legislature takes a 102 day break - When a party can win unchecked power with 40% of the vote, accountability becomes optional.English
2·6 hours agoNot voting is still a choice. We don’t get to be let off the hook because we couldn’t be arsed to vote for someone else. It’s universal that the lower the turnout, the better conservative candidates do; not voting is simply a vote for the conservatives! This is squarely Ontario voter’s fault.

1·6 hours agoIt’s definitely been seen in many many games, but I would call it an established design element rather than a gimmick, as it has often been used to very good effect.

51·1 day agoThere are some hard bright lines and murder is one of them. It’s one that I’ve been dismayed many progressive have in recent times decided they could overlook, if the right people suffer, if the right ends are advanced through the means of a human life. Please stop trying to obscure this line.

55·1 day agoIt shocks me that even in a progressive place like this, Americans still think that murder isn’t murder when a soldier does it. Like the Baby Jesus blesses everything a soldier does for their Holy America and makes it magically righteous and not even a little bit murdery.
The bulk of any work of literature is extra-textual; it’s the context the work exists in. Which is of course not static. Putting a photo in a new frame can completely change how it lands. But the opposite also happens, sometimes something that didn’t land 20 years ago becomes uncomfortably prescient today.
Well, that’s your problem! Stop that!
Oh fuck off, in two minutes there will be another guy coming along saying, “You don’t live in the city, eh?” It’s just whatever facile excuse comes into people’s head when they feel judged. Nobody makes you come here. Block the community.

1212·1 day agoBeing a combat veteran of multiple engagements within a foreign nation almost certainly means he committed or attempted pre-meditated, intentional, cold-blooded homicide. The word for that is murder. Having state sanction doesn’t make it not murder. The things you do still reflect on you.

2·2 days agoWell then it’s not really inherent. You’re talking about culture; we don’t just innately divine the nature of existence, we argue with each other and come to some kind of consensus. But the thing is, culture is arbitrary and almost necessarily wrong. None of us agree with each other about our place in nature. This quality you are citing does not exist in reality.
Think about how a human struggles to understand death and mortality. Ten years after a loss, our mind still seeks ways to reconnect with a person we knew, still tries to find ways to talk to that person. Our minds are kept from fundamentally accepting and understanding death. But most mammals do not behave like this. We tell ourselves it’s because we understand death and they do not, but if you examine the behaviour like an alien anthropologist, it looks like many non-human animals DO understand the nature of death, and we do not. We do not see reality, we see what our evolution wants us to see.

1·2 days agoYou mean the only attempt to recreate it failed. Only one group has shown these results. The results are not universally accepted, and indeed are contested by a second group. That is not established science, it’s still a subject of considerable research. You certainly can’t walk into a commercial clinic and order a religious experience like I’m certain you could if this were nailed down.

2·3 days agoThis is not yet established science. See, eg, https://www.bioedonline.org/news/nature-news-archive/electrical-brainstorms-busted-source-ghosts/
The joke here is that as biological organisms, the imperative to reproduce is genuinely more important than short term food and shelter and this man is making intelligent use of his resources to fill his life’s purpose. It only looks absurd.
Stoves and ranges often have high wattage hookups. They also often host electrical outlets. Seems weird there are no high speed boiling devices that exploit it.
Can I use two kettles to boil a quantity of water in half the time that one kettle will do it? And if so, why can’t I make a “double kettle”?

In what way? If there isn’t a story to be stupid, then what is stupid about it?
