Figure it took them 30 years just to take Salman Rushdie’s eye.

It’s bizarre given how explicit the teachings of Jesus are. It’s very clear that many churches are cults following the teachings of man, only nominally accepting the word of God
olympicyesto Technology•The Trump Administration is Building a National Citizenship Data System; State and county election officials can now check the citizenship status of their entire voter lists.English28·6 days agoThere was talk of establishing a national ID in the 90s but republicans revolted saying it would be the number of the beast. I guess their principles on the matter depend on whether the beast in question is Trump or Clinton. There would definitely be scope creep for such an ID, much like the SSN. I say just make it a national ID and eliminate the need to register to vote.
olympicyesto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is an embarrassing but funny thing you did? I'll start.English9·6 days agoThat’s not even the funniest part. The purpose of saying cheese is to make the photo subject smile. If they just rolled with queso then they’d be making an o shape with their lips when the photo is snapped.
olympicyesto News•American woman sings national anthem in Spanish; receives death threats from terrorists.English25·16 days agoWe don’t have an official language (still technically don’t anyway, Trump’s order only applies to the Executive branch), but we do have an official Spanish language version of the National Anthem.

The one I had connected to the antenna port on the back of the head unit. Still FM just no longer wireless. I think I had the choice of 5 or 6 stations to broadcast to.
olympicyesto Comic Strips•How tough could it be to fly through that tornado anyways??English6·1 month agoI feel bad for you. I have a couple avocado trees and we let the avocados stay on the tree until they are ripe. You can’t buy this variety at most stores because they’d get smushed in travel. The avocado is buttery and you can cut the skin with your fingernail. We end up giving them away to visitors because we have so many!

I learn a lot debugging the code I get from AI, and occasionally, I learn a thing or two.
olympicyesto politics •Elon Musk’s Grok AI has a problem: It’s too accurate for conservativesEnglish1·2 months agoThe term is “toe” the party line, but I like “tow” the party line ibecause that’s what Trump is doing. His followers agree to a set of beliefs one day and then he upends the orthodoxy the next, forcing them to take on a new position they would’ve been opposed to earlier. Followers Toe/Trump Tows matching pair like imply/infer.

olympicyesto Technology•Your Phone Isn’t Eavesdropping on You to Show You Ads (It’s Worse Than That)English4·2 months agoTangentially related to the article: To get an idea of how this data helps aggregators, ask ChatGPT to develop a complete psychological profile of yourself.
My usage history consists of requests for basic programming questions, help wording certainty things, scripts, reviewing documentation (eg organization policy), and a couple things goofing off (eg put my cat in a tuxedo). Just based on the types of questions I’m asking, and how I ask questions, and how I redirect it’s output via follow up questions, it was able to put together a profile that was surprisingly accurate.
It had a few things wrong, notably related to how organized or self disciplined I am. But if it had my calendar, by browser history, my biometric data (eg watch info), my location, it would easily be able to fill in the gaps. If the system only existed to help me, it would be tremendously valuable. But since the owners of this tech are all adversaries I am terrified for the future. The idea of the US federal government using it to profile citizens is too much to contemplate.
That guy I know from high school who adores McRib sandwiches will be stoked.
olympicyesto News•'God has an order': Head of Trump's faith office says women must 'submit' to menEnglish591·2 months agoFYI to Lemmy non-Christian’s: Paula White is an incredibly controversial figure in the evangelical community. Specifically, many believe her to be perpetuating fraud by demanding money from her followers in exchange for specific acts of prosperity provided by God (and even to ask God to smite your enemies). This differs from traditional tithing which typically is used for salaries, services (keeping the lights on), and community outreach.
Why evangelicals can’t point to her malfeasance as evidence of Trump’s corruption is a mystery to me. Additionally many conservative Christians don’t believe women should be in a position of authority, citing the same scripture she is here as evidence. If she were morally consistent she’d quit her “ministry” and go home.
I understood you and had the same issue. I solved it by using an Apple USBC to mini jack audio device instead of onboard. Not ideal. Not sure if it’s still a problem though.
Edit. My mistake I had the problem with Pulse not Pipewire.
It’s 92° F in a port city in Japan today. And humid. Was the user charging the switch 2 when this happened? If an iPhone is overheating I don’t see why a switch would be any different.
