Gonna go against the grain here with something classical: Pachabel’s Canon in D. I liked it when I was a kid, for at least the first 10 or 20 times I heard it, but since then I’ve probably heard it thousands of times, and I’m not even a strings player. I’m not exaggerating either; it’s in so many commercials, weddings, movies, just over loudspeakers in the grocery store… ugh it’s inescapable. Pretty the first few times, sure, but it’s so aggressively bland.

  • Okay so his thought is to cut back wage requirements for construction workers so that they can address the housing shortage by building housing quicker. Where are those construction workers going to fucking live while they build? They probably barely afford rent as it is! And you just know that the companies that employ them would happily pay them less but somehow make record profits…

I just listened to the first book, finished yesterday (it was a whopping three hours, as it’s really a novella). It seems the show is following the first book pretty closely. Some changes sure but the main plot line seems intact. Can’t speak for later books and of course all of the episodes aren’t released yet but it seems to be season 1 = book 1, which is All Systems Red.

  • My husband has been wondering if he should get formally diagnosed for ADHD now that our kid has been. (Talk about a carbon copy of a parent, this kid, geeze.) This explains a lot about the way he cooks. He always says it’s because he “needs more practice” but all I see is a chaotic stressful experience, and of course if I try to help him I just get in the way and make him irritated that I seem to think he can’t manage it on his own. Anyway all I’m saying is that it’s interesting to read your comment because I wonder if that’s my husband’s trouble, too.

Though we got her from a shelter, one of ours definitely picked us. We were cuddling a different kitten who looked extremely similar, and she was making a huge racket from her kennel. There was a post-it note on it that said “HOLD” so we assumed someone was coming back for her, but since she was yowling so much, we asked what it meant. The staff didn’t know; one of them went to find out, came back and tore the post-it note off the kennel. So of course we asked if we could hold her. She snuggled up to me and licked my chest immediately. So of course we adopted both of them. Funny enough, she is now 99% my husband’s cat.

  • The first time my cat met my husband, she made it abundantly clear. I was in grad school and living with my parents. One of my parents’ cats and my cat didn’t get along so she hung out in my room most of the time. My room faced the driveway so she could see when I got home. On this day, she came running from the room as new boyfriend and I walked in, ran right past me and went straight to him. I felt so snubbed! It was particularly notable since she had always hated any men that had come over at our old apartment prior to that.

KnitPicks (I’m a knitter primarily) and they have a sister site, WeCrochet I think; I haven’t used it but you might try it out. I shop for most of my yarn online and have gradually learned over the years what qualities to look for to know if I’m going to like how it feels.

    Runners up: Jimmy Beans Yarn

    Eat Sleep Knit
