4·3 days agoAbsolutely. Scrolled through all the images and had zero idea what the game even was. Thought it was a pet cat simulator or something.

5·4 days agoSetting up Matrix/Synapse was extremely easy and done in a day. The self hosting part is not that hard and I would say migrating users would be the majority of your time. Plenty of VPSs online make obtaining infrastructure very easy.

6·4 days agoAre you self hosting? I just set up an instance today and it was extremely easy following the instructions for the ESS Community edition on github.
Borg Base offers EU based server locations. They have been awesome to work with.

Mildly Infuriating•Japan cancels cherry blossom festival over complaints of tourists littering and ‘defecating’ in yardsEnglish
2·7 days agoYeah it really shows you put in the effort. Throwing your phone in someone’s face with a translation app open isn’t the most enjoyable experience but obviously needs to happen when the language barrier becomes too much.

5·7 days agoSure, I definitely think key words and phrases is great. More than that is going above and beyond. People will appreciate the effort.

19·7 days agoI mean you could also just be a good tourist. Learn the language, understand the culture, be respectful. It really isn’t hard. Some of the most ignorant people I know are the ones who refuse to travel outside of their own bubble.

Socialism@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Zohran Mamdani and the Sorcery of Soft RebellionEnglish
1·13 days agoI’m really questioning all of the doom-saying coming out of leftist spaces around the Mamdani mayorship. I am absolutely on board with a critical review of his actions but it feels like he is being written off extremely early on. So many people looking to be disappointed and already ready for him to become more of the status quo. I get the intentions and understand why but can we not afford any amount of optimism these days?

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Calibre 9.0 Open-Source Ebook Manager Released
4·15 days agoI simply use both. New book comes in, add to Calibre to get most metadata down pat and move to my library, then gets imported into Booklore where I can easily make minor changes/fixes and that’s it. I use Booklore for reading across many of my devices.
You could get rid of Calibre in my stack, I just find it nice for local management on my host PC.

15·26 days agoNeed to remember where they are getting paid from as well. That’s oil money lining their pockets.
Not sure if you also do aliases as well but I’ve seen an increase in websites flagging providers like addy.io as well. Extremely annoying that so many websites think they are so important that they refuse an alias.

7·28 days agoUsually people advise against trying to time the market. Missing the down is one thing but if you miss the way back up then that is a lot of potential profit gone. Weathering the storm is typically the better option.
