  • I guess. It’s frustrating that it takes so long and involves so much suffering.

Despite the deep pockets and general indifference to casualties, I think that the American populace will react to sudden large losses. Like, we collectively don’t seem to care if 3 thousand US troops are killed during a prolonged engagement lasting years. But if 3 thousand died in a single event, like a ship sinking, people would be fucking pissed. A lot of that anger would be channeled into a desire for retaliation. Some of it would also be directed at the leadership that put that ship in harms way.

  • It’s taken me a long time to realize that the Democratic Party, for the most part, doesn’t actually hold any principled stands on anything at all. I think they used to, but something changed when Clinton was elected and they abandoned new deal politics. For the sake of political expediency, they will employ rhetoric that sounds good sometimes, but none of it is backed by any beliefs whatsoever. It’s a loose coalition of dead eyed opportunist, and the deluded idealists they are still able to manipulate. The leadership has zero concern for its base or constituency as a whole. Are there some individual exceptions? Of course there are, but not many. As currently situated, the party will never mount a meaningful opposition to fascism.

  • We have descended into fascism because of 40 years of neoliberal politics. The ethos that the Clinton’s ushered in, which seemed so refreshing at the time, cultivated a party that stands for nothing, has not, and will not push back against fascism meaningfully.

Purity testing didn’t do all that. Terrible policy and terrible politics did.
