Oh I love this and had to expand on it. Here’s what I’ve ended up with.
What’s the most boring invention? The drill
What’s the most ground-breaking invention? The shovel
What invention sucks the most? The vacuum
What’s the most pointless invention? The wheel
What’s the most empowering invention? The generator
The whiteboard is the most remarkable invention though.
The net is quite captivating.

I find that joining pieces of sheet metal together with compressed mechanical fittings is riveting.
The problem with drill jokes is they’re always full of holes! Tool puns are a bit too far, they never measure up.

Drills are used to break a lot of ground, though, e.g. oil drilling. Maybe hammer works better? And compare it to the pickaxe?
I think “boring” (making a hole with a revolving but) in the title is a pun on this…
