Ecosia, Startpage, Qwant, SearXNG, Brave Search, Mojeek. All AI-free.

I love Ecosia, but it is not AI-free. The results are, for now, but they have AI Chat as well.

Fair. I just shudder every time AI is mentioned at work, especially when it’s the boomers talking about it.

All good options. I’ve recently changed all my devices to Ecosia. I’ve changed my parents to Firefox by making the desktop icon look like Chrome. Now I need to find an add-on that makes Ecosia look like Googlefor them.

Be warned though, I’m told mentioning Brave gets you shot around here.

Yep - Why I put it so far back on the list. I’m also not a huge fan of Brave Search unless through the filter of Mullvad. It’s fine, but not my daily driver.

I use Brave and couldn’t care less what people think. It’s the sweet spot for someone like me that just want to see Mozilla burn.

I’m starting to think that the AI hype bubble isn’t really meant for consumers. We’ve mostly killed off jounalism and news, review publications are all either dead or bought and paid for. Ads are all blocked and influencers are managed. Reviews and social commentary are tricky to engineer at scale, unless you have a huge AI farm to generate a ton of fake conversations to steer people to decisions.

Now that the tech is available to everyone, it’s an arms race to build a bigger one than your competitors to make it appear as though your ‘side’ of whatever you’re pushing is the more predominant perspective.

Adding AI crap to products is just the cover story to justify the giant costs to have your own private propaganda machine.

It’s about killing truth and creating a functionally if not literally idealist experience of the world rather by totally obfuscating material reality. That’s what all capitalist technology is for.

that “udm14” thing it is sold like if it was the last coke in the desert, when actually you can access to that “unshitified google” or “as google look many years ago” with just clicking the “Web” tab

What if we just make one ai talk to another ai ad infinitum ? We could cost them even more than they’re already losing.

I just set up a fresh install of Debian on a machine, and the first thing I did with Firefox was to disable all that AI bullcrap.

Same for me. I get what it can do but it is not worth the trade off. I hope the industry crumbles tbh.

In specialized fields, technology that broadly falls under “artificial intelligence” as in logic programs can be useful. LLMs however are not useful.

    Thank you so much!!

I don’t undersand why people dislike it, I get it there are alternatives to google, still some people will want to use google and this is an awesone alternative. Also not every new website is just a leech meant to get your metadata, there are still humans trying to do cool stuff.
