The NY Times comments about his death are pretty disgusting. Lots of enlightened centrist liberals talking about how inspiring and respectful Kirk was and what a loss it is.
That said, there were only about 100 comments before they locked it. Given the comment counts on big stories like this, I imagine there must’ve been about 10 or 20 times as many comments that they declined to publish.

There were like 80 school shootings in the states last year. The thing should be at half mast until that problem is solved by this logic.

Did you know anyone who was honorably discharged can be buried in a military cemetery? Doesn’t matter who. Whether you were a “war hero” (like my grandfathers), you died in war, or if you just partied and fixed trucks in Germany in the sixties (like my stepdad), you can be buried there.
Keep that in mind when someone tries to make them into sacred places. They’re just graveyards, they have no further meaning just because the stones are all the same.
