Explanation: Around the turn of the millennium, I was trying to come up with a username to use on a particular site that had a shortish character count limit for usernames. My goal was something related to the fact that I would often be making my points in arguments with “holier-than-thou” types by taking what they were saying, and turning it on its head so the offensive stuff was directed back at them.
I also happened to learn shortly beforehand that many years ago “'ape” was somewhat commonly used as a verb to mean “imitate” or “copy.”
I’m sure you can figure the rest out.
And no I’m certainly not a drunk but enjoy the rich ethnobotanical history and culture of Hessen Äpfelwein but extremely superficial stereotypes are what they are.
Sorry, I meant no offense, but was instead trying perhaps too hard to make a funny. My sincerest apologies if it landed poorly. My only excuse is that I was up much later than usual, unable to sleep due to (trying to avoid) thinking about something I had to deal with today. Fortunately, it went much smoother than expected.

Haha using some of the words above I did the same for a mate when we argued about it and constructed a deranged sentence. We eventually settled on it being a pointless argument since gi can make both sounds, forever dooming us to conflict. From the wiki:

Sorry, but JIF was already taken by a brand of peanutbutter for almost 30 years before the Graphics Interchange Format was created.
Never mind that when written out like that, the first word of the acronym tells you how to say it. Otherwise we’d be pronouncing that word like “giraffe-icks.”
I am 70% in agreement on that. It would be 100%, but someone once pointed out to me that SCUBA is pronounced differently than the words making up the acronym. It’s not “oonderwater.” Maybe we should say “Skuhbuh” instead of “scoobuh.” 🤣

But the “U” is in the middle. Don’t acronyms tend to follow something like “the first letter is pronounced like the word it is based on, then the rest of it is pronounced in the way which sounds like the ‘coolest’ or ‘easiest to say’ word”?

Where is the first A?The rule is that if you can make it sound like a word from mostly starting letters you have an acronym and that word can be pronounced however. If you cant and just have to spell out it’s letters like CIA its an initialism.
You expect too much out of English. Spelling and pronunciation rules are at best casual suggestions with dozens of exceptions.
I accept both form of pronounciation, but I say gif.
